The Experience

Let your hair down and run free. Matt and Verity are the most delightful owners and live on-site so have much to offer and plenty of suggestions for your holiday fun. Choose from The Granary, an upside-down house with simple bedrooms downstairs, hugely beamed living room and kitchen upstairs. It’s not state of the art but it’s all good stuff – solid oak, proper granite, Italian leather sofas. The Mill is of a similar style (but the normal way around) and perfect for families too – take them both together if you are a larger party and you’ll have a great time charging between the two. Slightly different is the little contemporary bolthole Ella’s Pottery, with the duckiest of wood-burners, sweet kitchen with all you need, views over the garden from the table and your own decking area for al fresco meals. This is a relaxed, unfussy sort of place with enormous gardens for lively folk to explore; the brave may even chance a dip in the big pond – but watch out for ducks! You are in the middle of Penwith and not far from the best of west Cornwall: beaches for fabulous picnics and sea bathing, coastal walks and St Ives.

We stayed in the " Granary " from the 15th of June for 10 days in 2017 and felt very overjoyed immediately..we highly recommend Roskennals which has a wonderful and tranquil ambiance surrounded by a naturally landscaped garden. Matt and Verity have put a lot of tasteful design, love and care into this property and as a visitor one soaks up all the benefits of this ! It is also VERY well situated for this part of Cornwall, with lots of reachable excursions to be seen and enjoyed. Attractive St Just is the nearest village for daily needs.. Many thanks and we would love to return! Carole & Wilf

We stayed at The Mill and loved it. In general, very comfortable, beautifully kept, lovely grounds, comfortably near lots of points of interest. Very hospitable and friendly owners. Great place to be when it is rainy. Well worth the stay.

A magical setting, utter peace you could be a million miles from anywhere, but in fact the necessities of life only a few miles away. The Mill has been renovated with great care, and such attention to detail. We found it faultless in every way. But the real accolade has to go to the owners, who are the most perfect hosts, considerate, kind and fun. This is the perfect place to chill.

Visited the Mill for a family holiday last September. We were completely blown away with the place. Set in Wonderful West Cornwall countryside the Mill is a beautiful building which is ideal for families. Well laid out, well maintained, exceptionally clean and extremely friendly owners (including their little dog, who will greet you every day). Will be back!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Verity & Matt Hill

  • Wildlife Watch Update !! Within our grounds the following have been spotted...Deer, Kingfisher, Snipe, Woodcock, Buzzards, Heron, Canada Geese, Moorhen, Egret, Wild Duck, Barn Owl, Woodpecker & Red Kite...can you add to the growing list!!!
  • For those of you who love the freshest of local fish, then you must visit the bustling Newlyn Fish market, or the Fishmongers where you can select exactly what you need!
  • Less than a 10 minute drive will take you to Portheras Cove near Pendeen Lighthouse. After a stroll across the field you will find a beautiful, horse shoe sandy beach that is dog friendly all year...this is our favourite beach!
  • The famous Minack Theatre with its stunning location, fabulous productions and exotic plants is close by....and sits at the top of Porthcurno Beach, another firm favourite with our guests.
  • The coastal walks in west Cornwall are arguably the best there are. You can "strike out" to go north or South. A great starting point is Sennen Cove. You can walk South towards Land End or beyond, or if you prefer you can head north towards Cape Cornwall.
  • Most guests who come to stay like to surf at least once! In our opinion the best place to go is to Sennen Beach. There is a surf school and next to Sennen's long sandy beach is Gwenver, where the surfers head to catch the bigger waves!

Verity & Matt Hill

Matt and Verity came on holiday to Roskennals and ended up buying the place after too many glasses of wine with the previous owners! They have restored the Mill, Granary and Ella's Pottery, rebuilt most of their house and reclaimed around five to six acres of overgrown grounds. They love seeing guests, their kids – and their dogs - enjoying the grounds, exploring the area, and returning year after year, no longer guests but friends.
