The Experience

Polruan is a very old fishing and boat building village surrounded by water on three sides. Your cottage is near the Blockhouse, built in the 14th century to protect the harbour from pirates and the French. The bedrooms are small but very comfortable with king-size beds; one can become a twin room, the other has beautiful harbour views, and they share a bathroom. Upstairs is the living area with more views: the village to one side, the boat-studded estuary on the other.

Join the South West Coast path 50 yards from the door for bracing walks: to Polperro in just over two hours (depending on how fit you are) or further, and then get a taxi or bus back. Catch the foot ferry to Fowey from the village for independent shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. In August the Royal Regatta will be right outside your door.

You’ll find supermarkets in Saltash, Liskeard or St Austell but you can top up at a good general store in the village. Settle by the wood-burner with books, games, Smart TV and music or wander down to one of the pubs in the village for dinner. You can do without your car for most things.

Reviews

I liked the slightly quirky layout of September Cottage, with fabulous open water views you could sit all day and watch the boats and birds coming and going from the Fowey River. Approached on foot down a fairly steep hill, you'll improve your fitness but its worth it. Polruan is well served with pubs, cafe and little shops so if you wish you can go carless all week and stay easily local.

We love this cottage and have just booked our third stay here. It is clean and comfortable , unfussy and really well equipped. Fantastic location and with the added treat of our own parking space at the top of the road (!)

We had a wonderful weeks stay at September cottage which has the most fabulous views of the river and Fowey from the lounge window. The property is comprehensively equipped and Ann your host will ensure you have all the information you could possibly need to ensure you make the most of your stay.

This is our 2nd visit to September Cottage and we are about to book a 3rd! The cottage is exactly as it’s described and the photographs are not trying to hide anything. The view from the lounge window can be seen from the sofa and the dining table. The only problem you’ll have is deciding if you want to watch the boats, the TV or the crackling log burner! We didn’t miss having outdoor space as the window opens wide enough to feel you are outside and the harbour is nearby. Ann is very contactable if you have any questions about the property and there’s plenty of info regarding the Fowey area.

Candida, London

We had a wonderful stay in this charming cottage which provides all one needs for a restful and enjoyable experience away from the busy hub of normal life, and we hope to return for a longer stay next time. The cottage is nicely decorated, and is well equipped, containing all one needs, with 2 bedrooms (the main bedroom has a huge and very comfy bed), a small compact bathroom and kitchen and a lovely dining/sittingroom area upstairs with amazing views over the Fowey estuary where one can sit for ages watching the boats come and go. It's a great location for walks also. Thank you September Cottage!

Location

The neighbourhood

Polruan is a quiet little village on the opposite side of the water from Fowey. It is approached along long, winding country lanes or by ferry. It has a couple of pubs which do good food, a tea shop, a bakery and the general store. You're on the South West Coast Path for fabulous walking. Try Hall Walk which will take you to Daphne du Maurier’s house and an excellent pub, the Old Ferry Inn.
