Hidden down the side of Tracey’s house are two little flats each with their own door. One has stairs to an airy bedroom and a glimpse of the sea. Find a calm, sleek feel with modern white furniture, cool linen, snug wool blankets; zinc coat hooks, bright cushions, clever lighting add interest. Tracey leaves you a niftily upcycled 7UP box stuffed with homemade granola, croissants, pain au chocolat, homemade compote and yogurt, fruit, organic oatmeal porridge, agave syrup… Eat outside on the shared suntrap terrace – or in bed if you fancy. Stroll along the harbour, book a boat trip; St Ives and atmospheric Minack Theatre are nearby.

The only smell at The Old Pilchard Works is the sweet smell of zesty lime from the local hand made shower gel, generously available in the large and luxurious bathroom at this delightful 2 room b&b. Tucked away in the historic streets and close to the quay and coastal path, Tracey runs her b&b with attention to every detail. Breakfast is a real treat. Choose from an array of homemade goodies the night before and it is delivered, beautifully and ingeniously boxed up to either your room or the sunny terraced garden. Lovely restaurants nearby major on excellent fresh fish. We loved our stay.

Angela, Oakham

Tracey was an incredibly hospitable host, and the place was beautiful and spacious. The included breakfast was delicious as well, strongly recommend Pilchard Works to anyone visiting Cornwall

Anna, London

Tracey was a fantastic hostess. The accommodation was immaculate and finished to an incredibly high standard. Each delicious breakfast was hand prepared with selection of homemade and local ingredients; gluten-free and dairy-free alternatives were available as well. I would highly recommend staying at the The Old Pilchard Works. I would happily stay here again in the future.

On arrival we had a lovely warm welcome by Tracey. The rooms were spotless, best continental breakfast ever, so much attention to detail, nothing was too much trouble. Couldn’t fault anything about our stay from start to finish. We would definitely stay here again, and would highly recommend it to others.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Tracey Wearne

  • Mousehole is one of the most captivating villages in Cornwall, Dylan Thomas once called it the prettiest village in England. At its centre lies the harbour and beach, overlooked by a collection of houses and narrow streets.
  • Restaurants, cafes, deli, galleries, shops and cosy village pub, are all just a few metres from The Old Pilchard Works. What better way than to spend your days getting lost among the narrow streets, enjoying stunning sea views or perhaps even a boat trip
  • From Mousehole explore the dramatic south west coast path and search out the stunning beaches such as Porthcurno and Sennen.
  • Go and visit or watch a performance at the unique Minnack Theatre with the Atlantic ocean as a back drop, just 20 minutes drive away.
  • Explore iron age settlements at Chysauster and Carn Euny or ancient standing stones such as the Merry Maidens.
  • Just a few miles across the bay is St Michaels Mount, a medieval hilltop castle surrounded by subtropical gardens and a quaint harbour village. This can be reached on foot across the causeway at low tide or by ferry at high tide.
