Tregerrin Barns

Padstow, Cornwall

Superbly renovated barns in warm contemporary style, brilliant for peace-seekers and surfers - and children can walk safely to Trevone

2 places

Sleeping from 6 – 8

Where the track peters out, the hideaway begins. Surrounded by cornfields and pastures, this is sleepy-deep Cornwall. Park the car, then forget it: you can walk to the beach every day, and Padstow is a 20-minute stroll. The Barn, classic and Cornish, sturdy with stone and sea-blue shutters, has been superbly renovated in contemporary style. Downstairs: a vast space of beams, rough stone walls, cool white plaster and smooth slate heated flags. Flooded with light from French windows (opening to a terrace), it sprawls with sofas, table lamps, a real fire (logs on the house) and a handsome farmhouse table for up to 12. The kitchen oozes quality – cream units and Aga, Le Creuset cookware. An open staircase leads to three bedrooms – oak floors, rafters, more stone walls – lightly furnished in contemporary country style. One has a striking glass door leading to the old loading ramp while the children’s room is bright, with fun fabrics. Bathrooms are compact yet stylish and well-lit; there’s heaps of storage elsewhere. Brilliant for walkers, cyclists, surfers, sailors and beach bunnies – just about everyone! Lynhay Barn next door (sleeps six) is just as gorgeous with an open-plan living space with slate flags, tan leather sofas, rugs, and an Aga kitchen, terrace & garden.

The Lynhay was excellently placed between Padstow and Trevone although the last half mile or so by road was a bit challenging. The cottage itself was well appointed, clean and comfortable. The short walk to the beach first thing in the morning or in the evening to see fantastic sunsets was a big bonus while the walk to Padstow was also very pleasant and enjoyable. The farmshop at the end of the lane has a wide choice of local produce and Padstow offers many places to eat and drink.
