Tucked into the hillside off a narrow lane, this 1750s smallholding is surrounded by fells, so is perfect for walkers. Absolute privacy for friends or family with your own entrance to a beamed, stone-flagged sitting room with a wood-burning stove, and cheery floral curtains. Warm bedrooms have original paintings, good beds, hot water bottles, bathrobes and a sparkling bathroom with a loo with a remarkable view. Malcolm and Marjorie are totally committed to organic food – you get a welcoming pot of tea and cake on arrival and a fabulous breakfast. They’ll give you good advice about the local area too. Fell walking is not compulsory!
