The
Experience

Dianne and Ian have spent years renovating their attractive Lakeland stone water mill. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, it dates from the 13th century and one of the grinding stones is set in the traditional sitting room. Arrive to afternoon tea next to the fire, or by the summerhouse overlooking the mill stream and pretty valley. Fresh bedrooms have comfy beds and coordinating fabrics. Wake to home-grown fruits, homemade jams and eggs from the hens; Dianne is happy to do supper too. Wander the beautiful garden, visit historic homes and market town Kirkby Lonsdale; great walking and cycling, and close to the A590 so a good Scotland stop-over.

Local points of interest from Dianne Woof

  • Levens Hall and gardens: The hall is a magnificent Elizabethan mansion built around a 13th century pele tower. The famous Historic Topiary gardens were laid out in the 1690s - the garden still retains many of the original features.
  • Arnside: facing the estuary of the river Kent within the Arnside and Silverdale area of outstanding natural beauty. The sunsets are breathtaking.
  • Cartmel : The ancient village of Cartmel is full of delightful surprises and quaint and cosy tea rooms - it is famous for the 12th century Cartmel Priory which presides over the village.
  • There are many walks and cycle routes which take you past our doorstep. We have a large collection of maps and guides to help our guests explore the local area.
  • We are passionate about our home and we are more than happy to explain the history of the mill, both inside the building and outside . We love to give our guests a tour of the garden, featuring the mill pond, mill race and the 3/4 breast shot water wheel
