Luxurious B&B with good food and welcoming hosts. Winster is brimming with life: pancake races, Morris dancing, garden tours, live music...

The lively village of Winster is mega-pretty; the Old Shoulder of Mutton, once a pub, sits in its middle. Steven and Julie are welcoming and their home is as cosy as can be. Find a warm contemporary and traditional mix, framed clay pipes (found during renovations), a charming drawing room, luxurious bedrooms and snazzy en suite bathrooms. Breakfast is by the wood-burner: feast on eggs Benedict, homemade jam, local bacon and the famous Derbyshire oatcakes. There's a lovely and unexpected garden at the back; Bakewell, with its legendary Monday market and Chatsworth House, is a short drive, and the walking is dreamy.

  • If you enjoy visiting beautiful Houses then you will love Chatsworth House. It is the wonderful home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire with its newly re-gilded windows, lavish interiors with amazing artwork and a garden regularly voted second to Kew.
  • We are listed in the current Michelin Guide.
  • We can arrange for you to take afternoon tea with Sir Richard FitzHerbert who will also personally show you around Tissington Hall, his beautiful and seldom opened home and garden in the heart of the White Peaks. (Minimum 4 people).
  • We have great walks from the door which offer huge variety - woodland, dale, pasture, abandoned lead mine structures, prehistoric moorland with stone circle, pretty villages, the Limestone Way, Robin Hood's Stride and the Pub voted the Best in Derbyshire.
  • We want you to have a great time in the Peak District so we can tell you the best places to visit, things to do and the best pubs and restaurants to eat nearby. We can make reservations for you in advance and even book a taxi if you wish.
  • Explore the Peak District with one of our detailed driving routes. Our favourite takes in Tissington, Ilam, Dovedale, the Manifold Valley and Stanton in Peak. We even have a route for you to trace the long forgotten proposed Peak District Grand Prix.

"A spotless and perfectly appointed haven with unobtrusive yet attentive and welcoming hosts. We tried to come up with faults on the trip home but failed."

"This was our last accommodation on our six week stay in the UK and it capped our time off beautifully. The accommodation and the village brimmed with character and history along with being very comfortable and restful. The breakfasts were so delicious. Our hosts Steven and Julie were delightful, gentle and most welcoming. We also loved their beautiful garden where we sat and enjoyed our afternoon tea. Steven took us on a trip of the Peak District (places we would not have found!) in his model A Ford and we had a ball! Thank you Julie and Steven for having us."

"Julie and Steven have created a peaceful and comfortable haven in the pretty village of Winster. They provide everything needed for a most enjoyable stay in the stunning Peak District. They are thoughtful and generous hosts. Julie is a wonderful cook and talented gardener and Steven is extremely knowledgeable about the local environment. We couldn't have been more pleased with our choice of B & B."

"Julie and Steven have created a luxurious haven for guests in their lovely home. One of the best - if not THE best Sawday's B&B we have found so far. Truly a very 'Special Place to Stay'."

"One of, if not the best, inn stays I've had ever! Hosts are the perfect mix of open and helpful with respect for their guests privacy... so there's no "forced" chats like some hosts seem to think are required. Beautiful interior, lovely gardens, and excellent breakfasts."
August 2014
"An amazing B & B with luxurious robes & towels. Decor fantastic. The owners were incredibly helpful going not just the extra mile to help us but the extra 10 miles to ensure a perfect stay. Thank you so much."
