Escape from the world at this gracious old house, and if you’re lucky one of the horses may have a new-born foal. Have tea on the terrace, lap up country views from big, airy bedrooms, read in the drawing room, look at the eclectic art.
Viviane is happy to chat and gives you Aga-cooked breakfasts with garden compote, honey and Greek yogurt, home-laid eggs, locally sourced meats. The fire in the dining room is lit in winter, the sun streams through the tall windows in summer. Viviane raids her veg plot for dinners too: roasts, venison or beef stews – she’ll discuss menus for a house party.
It’s a short drive to Exmoor National Park or the coast – ask about off the beaten track spots, the family know the area inside out. Ease any walker’s pains away in a steaming roll top tub; children will have fun in the games room and there’s a tennis court. A stream winds through the garden – four NGS acres full of roses and colourful pots.
