Cosy log fires, delicious homemade cake on arrival, a sublime setting… Beacon House is perfect in many ways, but relaxed and homely too

Perched above Brixham's bustling harbour (a scamper downhill for the sprightly) is this pretty Victorian villa and immaculate B&B. Here live Amanda, Nigel and Henry the springer spaniel, happily sharing garden, house and views. In 'Bay View' the bed is positioned so that you wake to the sun as it rises above the headland and shimmers across the bay… but every room is special and each gets the view. Torbay vistas compete with delicious breakfasts brought to small tables (Devon haddock; apricots stewed in tea and orange; local honey; Amanda's take on the old favourite, the 'Full Beacon'). Dartmouth is five miles, the coastal path a few steps.

  • Enjoy an evening meal in one of the many elevated retaurants overlooking this magical harbour. With the lights shimmering over the water and Brixham fresh fish on the menu, its definitely a "must do" when visiting this historic fishing port.
  • The South West Coastal path is only yards away, enjoy either a gentle stroll around the harbour or for the more adventurous a 11 mile walk to Kingswear taking in some of the most stunning scenery on the South Coast. To return take a ferry trip to remember.
  • History and heritage is in an abundance in Brixham. It benefits from some wonderful attractions to ensure you connect with this before you leave. Sir Francis Darkes' Golden Hind, the "Smugglers and Pirates" experience and Brixham Museum are all "must do's"
  • Stroll down the steps from Beacon House, walk the historic harbour side, as the orange sun sets , walk the 1/2 mile length of the breakwater with its light house still welcoming many a returning trawler, return and enjoy a meal in the Breakwater Bistro...
  • The Berry Head peninsula is part of the Global Geopark and is a 40 minutes walk away. It offers the most commanding views of the Devon coast, two Napoleonic forts, the UK's smallest light house,, Guillemots basking in the cliff side and the Guardsman Cafe!
  • Brixham is ideally placed to visit many other destinations populating the South Devon Coast. Within an hour you can be seduced by breathtaking Dartmoor, Salcombe with its picturesque estuary, Dartmouth and its naval college and the ever popular Torquay.

"What a special place. The epitomy of the perfect English fishing village with all its associated charms. Our accommodation was spotless, the breakfast delicious and the view extraordinary. We loved it. Thank you so much."

"A wonderful stay from start to finish, we couldn't have asked for more. The rooms were warm and inviting and had wonderful views of Brixham. Nigel and Amanda are the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble - from the low cal breakfasts to tips for local restaurants and walks. Our favourite memory was crawling back after an 8hr walk to enjoy a bottle of wine on the balcony and watching the sun setting over the harbour."
