The
Experience
This versatile barn is tucked down a private drive and sits by a lake deep in beautiful South Hams farmland. Caroline’s restoration has been imaginative: oak beams soar above the vast, vaulted living space and there’s a long sociable table with room for everybody. If you want to cook Riverford Organics will deliver, if you don’t Caroline can order in a chef. Kids can run riot in the open-plan living space when it is wet – in summer spill out to a barbecue terrace where you can sip a sundowner while keeping an eye on the enclosed baby and toddler play area. There’s a games room for older children.Bring the dogs for walks along the sands (no fewer than eight dog-friendly beaches nearby). Dartmoor and the coastal rambles of the South Devon peninsula are on the doorstep.

We were a group of 10 friends and had a fantastic weekend at Big Barn. The Barn is stylish and quirky with luxurious sofas and linens. However it also very practical and suits a big group wonderfully. Caroline, the owner, was very easy to contact before our arrival and was so helpful- receiving our grocery and wine deliveries before our arrival - and putting them away for us. The area is beautiful and we feel we've just scratched the surface. Would definitely recommend Big Barn and we'd love to come back.

Location
The neighbourhood
In the heart of the South Hams, close to country and coast with things for all ages a short drive away. The nearest village is Blackawton (six minutes’ drive) which has a Post Office and a decent pub, The George. The four market towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe can be reached in around 20 minutes; all have big shops, cafés and restaurants. Walkers can strike out along a particularly testing and scenic stretch of the South West Coastal Path from East Prawle to Salcombe (six miles/three hours).

Introducing
Caroline Murray
Caroline’s restoration of Larcombe Farm started in 2004, when she also inherited a flock of rare breed sheep. With a background in photography, furniture making, antiques and building development, Caroline has had a hand in every part of her restoration of Big Barn; she grew up on a farm a few miles away and was always destined to return. You’ll find her in the farmhouse – she’ll be there to meet and greet.
We visited Big Barn over the Easter break to celebrate my mum in laws 90th birthday with a family party, ages ranging from 1yr old to 90yrs old. A very comfortable, warm and beautifully maintained barn set in the Devon countryside which accommodated all ages with a games room and playing field with swings etc. The owner was more than helpful, received our online shop, unpacked and put all the groceries away. We asked if we could drop off frozen foods before our arrival time and this request was accepted with no hesitation. The family agreed that we would certainly stay at Big Barn again.
