The Experience

Easy-going, foodie, country-lovers will fit right in here. Lisa and Matt, passionate about real food, cook home-grown dinners; charcuterie a speciality. Their fine old Devon long house sits in a green fold of farmland and you’re free to wander the garden, chat to the pigs, plunge in the invigorating pool. Inside find a quirky mix of family and brocante finds, a snug sitting room full of art, colourful comfortable rooms and fab bathrooms. Breakfast is a delicious spread of homemade everything: granola, jams, sourdough bread, sausages and bacon from the rare breed pigs. No 3 cycle route is close by; Exmoor walks and coast are 20 minutes.

Matt gave us a very friendly welcome and we immediately felt very comfortable and relaxed. we loved the beautiful, stylish room that overlooked the lovely garden. The bathroom is stylish and large, everything was very well maintained and beautifully designed. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we didn't take a walk through the beautiful garden, then we would certainly have discovered the pool ;-) Our breakfast was excellent, all ingredients were lovingly homemade. Homemade rolls and muffins - both incredibly delicious. We will come back one day and stay for longer time. Many thanks!

A wonderful b & b, the setting is beautiful with wildlife on the doorstep, breakfast was tasty with homemade fare including sausages and delicious bacon. The rooms are charming and the outside patio a bonus. Lisa and Matt made us feel most welcome..

A thoroughly enjoyable stay in a gem of a place. Couldn't have been more comfortable or better looked after. Superb breakfast too. Attention to detail was obvious at every turn. Thanks Matt and Lisa for your hospitality. We'll be back!

A lovely place for a restful break, hosted by very friendly Matt and Lisa. They could not have been more more helpful, serving top-quality breakfast each day and a great dinner one evening, using produce from the farm and garden. Set in a scenic peaceful valley with all accommodation being nicely decorated with a nice mix of traditional and modern (and plenty of hot water). Coombe Farm is right on a number of footpaths, one of which heads straight to the local pub (New Inn), which also does great food and beer. Thanks for looking after us in your home!

This is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in. We are not typically leavers of reviews, but the experience we had at Coombe Farm makes them the exception to the rule. We were in the Blue Room, which was spacious and comfortable and furnished with style. It comes with a fantastic large and warm bathroom (important as the weather reverted to cold and damp on our stay). Matt was in sole charge for most of our time, and he looked after us peerlessly, producing delicious breakfasts. We met Lisa on our last morning, and we look forward to returning and trying one of her evening meals.

Matt and Lisa were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. Their own sausages and bacon were excellent.

Coombe Farm is a truly wonderful B&B. The hosts Lisa and Matt are relaxed and accommodating, in short the perfect hosts. The accommodation is beautiful yet comfortable, the situation magical and Lisa's cooking delicious. We cannot recommend Coombe Farm highly enough!

Lucy, Cheltenham

Coombe Farm is absolute bliss. There are so many subtle extra touches that make it a complete gem. The peaceful setting. The beautifully decorated and finished rooms. The homemade deliciousness of all the wonderful food on offer. And Lisa and Matt themselves - welcoming, friendly, calm and wonderfully efficient without being overbearing - nothing seems too much trouble (we weren't the most straightforward guests) - and they make it all look so easy. I can't recommend Coombe Farm enough.

Coombe Farm has to be one of the best B and Bs we have stayed in in the UK. Lisa and Matt were so welcoming and warm hearted. The Blue Room is beautiful, super comfy bed and fabulous bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and if you get the chance to sample their home cooking one evening then you are in for a treat! Thank you Lisa and Mark for looking after us so well!

Beautiful accommodation in outstanding setting. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner Lisa. Would love to stay again, highly recommended.

Jeremy, York

Coombe Farm is in a delightful situation nestling deep in the countryside. The welcome was superb, a delicious three-course supper was provided without prior notice, the room was very comfortable and charmingly decorated as is the whole house.

Lyn, Chichester

A luxurious retreat with 5* accommodation and 5* hosts. Lisa and Matt's home is truly superb. The B&B is home from home but with the feel of a five star hotel (Lisa's homemade biscuits were fab along with Neal's Yard products in the bathroom). Breakfast: homemade granola with berries, yoghurt, eggs or bacon from the farm. Plenty of space to relax in the room, garden or designated living room. Lisa and Matt are fantastic cooks so would definitely recommend dinner at the farm. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are looking for a restorative break, Coombe Farm ticks all the boxes.

Local points of interest from Lisa Eckford

  • We are a 15 minute stroll through fields and woodland to our local pub, the New Inn which serves great home made food. The restaurant at Broomhill Sculpture Park is also recommended, as is the Michelin starred Mason's Arms in Knowstone.
  • There are many walks from the farm through surrounding fields and woodland. Coast and moorland walks are a short drive. We have maps you can borrow and lots of suggestions for our favourite walks.
  • This is a great place for cycling; towards Exmoor if you like it hilly, or on the Tarka trail towards Braunton or Bideford for a flat, off-road, tar-sealed ride (the longest one in the UK).
  • We are a short drive from some of the best surfing in the UK at Croyde, Putsborough or Saunton Sands. We have lockable storage available for any equipment you bring.
  • We are close to many beautiful gardens including Marwood Hill, Docton Mill and the RHS garden at Rosemoor, as well as many National Trust properties and sites.

Lisa and Matt were both investment bankers in London - although Lisa should definitely have been an interior designer. They realised they were spending all their time escaping London and heading for the countryside as they both love running, cycling, swimming and generally being outdoors. So they moved down here, and are very happy running a B&B and The Stables and farming on a small scale.
