A wonderful 6 day stay. Our hosts were attentive, gracious, welcoming. Cannot say enough about our visit. The rooms, swimming pool, gardens, breakfasts were all exceptional.

Truly fabulous retreat with wonderful hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, with lovely gardens and ultra clean living space. The decor was delightfully unique and the swimming pool an added bonus. The breakfast was cooked to order with vegetarian option. In all, well worth a visit!

We have just enjoyed 2 nights at Hooppells Torr in the Hyrangea room. The room is fabulous with a gorgeous bathroom. The Hosts made us feel very welcome immediately and even served us home made cake and tea in the beautiful garden. A swim in the wonderful indoor pool each day was a real treat. Thoroughly recommended

Just returned from a perfect stay at Jeeva and Simon's beautiful South Ham's home - Hooppells Torr ..complete relaxation in a beautiful space with a tucked away location .....the hydrangea room is romantic and calming overlooking gardens and views to the hills in the distance....our food.... and hosts' local knowledge was excellent....swimming and chilling in their saltwater pool and at nearby Wonwell's and slightly further afield...Ayrmer's cove ... feeling re-charged and rested ...we would love to return to this special place again

You will be well looked after by attentive hosts, Jeeva and Simon. Listening to the bees from the open French windows in their beautifully designed Pondicherry bedroom was one of many special highlights. From the tea and home-made cake served in the garden to swimming in the salt water pool, you can expect to be spoiled. Jeeva and Simon's breakfasts will become legendary - home-made compote, granola, fresh fruit, the full English, sourdough toast, blueberry pancakes and maple syrup -an abundance of all your favourite things! You will be charmed by this special place. Highly recommended.

We loved everything about this place..from the friendly welcome with homemade shortbread & tea in the beautiful garden & surroundings, to the quality of bedroom furnishings, fittings, linen, crockery & breakfasts, Jeeva & Simon have got things just right. ( Indoor Swimming Pool, added bonus) Hoopells Torr is definitely the best B & B we have ever stayed in, can thoroughly recommend.

Ideal getaway for a relaxing and romantic weekend. Simon & Jeeva made us very welcome. The Hydrangea Room was lovely. The breakfasts were just perfect. We also enjoyed walking around the 6 acres of garden, having afternoon tea in the shade, swimming in the indoor salt water pool and walking down the lane to a charming pub (The Dolphin Inn) in the evening. We chose Hoopells Torr specifically to go to the Oyster Shack (Bigbury) but how delighted we were to discover Simon and Jeeva's home!! We will definitely return.

Peter & yuki, Oxford

Jeeva and Simon are the perfect hosts, making us feel completely at home. Acres of beautifully maintained gardens with loads of little spaces for you to sit and take in the fantastic view towards the moor. The Pondicherry room is stylishly finished with a spacious shower room. The breakfast was amazing and many thanks for ensuring everything was gluten free. The local pub is walkable and the food good (GF available) with the beaches and coastal paths nearby. With only 2 rooms you'll never feel like it's too busy, perfect for some quiet time .

The neighbourhood

You’re on the outskirts of Kingston, where the Dolphin pub offers good food and a friendly welcome. If you’re after something fresh from the sea, a 10-minute drive to the Oyster Shack in Bigbury will please. Here in the South Devon AONB, all the stunning beaches, stately homes and strenuous outdoor activity you’ll need to work off that breakfast are an easy drive away, and the South West coastal path obligingly runs right past the village church.

Local points of interest from Jeeva & Simon Beckett

  • Stroll to our fabulous local beach, Wonwell, just over a mile away. The village sits on the South West Coast Path and boasts a brilliant circular coastal walk that starts outside the church and takes in our 16th century local pub.
  • Visit Bigbury-on-Sea, just 10 minutes’ drive away, for surfing lessons or take the sea tractor to Burgh Island and enjoy a drink at the Pilchard Inn. Breathe in the fresh sea air and relax.
  • Explore Dartmoor's rugged landscape, granite tors, wooded valleys and mysterious stone circles. The National Park is only 20 minutes away.
  • Enjoy seasonal crab, lobster, oysters and fish at The Oyster Shack, local meats and game at The Ship Inn and enormous Sunday lunches at The Journey's End. All within a 15 minute drive.
  • Join a gin distillery tour at the hip new Salcombe Gin or historic Plymouth Gin in the city's old Barbican quarter. Take a masterclass where you can create and distil your very own bottle to take home.
  • Antique showrooms, independent shops, tea houses, delis and affordable art galleries can be found in nearby Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Ashburton and Totnes.

Jeeva & Simon Beckett

Cheerful Jeeva and Simon fled London for rural Devon for a change of pace. Jeeva’s years of work in some of the capital’s finest boutique hotels and Simon’s love of food and cooking make staying here special. Jeeva introduces guests to meditation walks in the gardens to help them relax, while Simon has just passed his wine exams and plans to get a licence – the best of all possible worlds. Toddler Luke and cat Sidney complete the happy picture.
