The Experience

Time to unwind – there is a reassuring comfort and luxury to these bedrooms, a place to exhale and simply relax. The rambling farmhouse, beautifully updated by Jeeva and Simon, has six acres of spectacular grounds for you to explore and even picnic in.

From the conservatory you look out over a glorious English country garden straight out of a Merchant Ivory film, while Simon plies you with his Aga-cooked breakfast, featuring the best of what’s local and seasonal. Sheltered, sandy Wonwell beach is just a 20-minute meander away, and the cheery local pub is closer still.

Your thoughtful hosts have made sure their guest rooms have a private entrance so you can come and go as you please. Pleasingly understated, but not to be underestimated.

We had the most amazing stay at this fantastic B&B. The location is incredible. So peaceful and a short walk away from a stunning beach. The house is beautifully decorated and our room and bathroom were so comfortable and luxurious. We tried two breakfast specials and also the full English, all absolutely delicious. But… the very best thing about Hooppells Torr is the wonderful hosts, Simon and Jeeva. They are so friendly and welcoming and we really enjoyed getting to know them during our stay. We can’t wait to return.

Sandie, Stratford upon Avon

An ideal getaway for a few days, just a short walk to the beach and the nearest pub. Set in a beautiful landscape and grounds, it is a great base for exploring the south coast of Devon. Our large, spacious, and tastefully decorated room had much attention to detail and design by the friendly hosts, with a very comfortable bed, a unique bathroom, and a fresh coffee machine! Breakfasts were wonderful, with Devon eggs that had a colour you will forever long for. With an excellent selection of fine wines to enjoy, you can round off your evening listening to the owls out in the trees.

Glenn, London

Stylish accommodation with the whole experience carefully thought through . Simon and Jeeva host seemlessly . Breakfasts first class and garden a true sanctuary with lots of areas to relax and unwind. Simon's wine bar was a special treat and we took advantage every night! First class experience in a lovely area. Thankyou.

Simon, Newmarket

We had the most wonderful stay for 5 nights with Jeeva and Simon. Hooppells Torr is a really special place, the farmhouse and its location are absolutely charming, full of character and blissfully tranquil, only a short walk from the estuary and a lovely Devon 'locals' beach. The bedroom and bathroom was very comfortable and we felt very much at home, enjoying very much the thoughtful touches like Green and Blacks chocolates! Breakfast was FANTASTIC and the selection of locally sourced foods was brilliant. We can't wait until next time - thank you both for looking after us!

Emma, West Sussex

Four nights in late May/early June which we loved. Simon and Jeeva are great hosts. The breakfasts are delicious with a special every day. Simon is a great cook. Beautiful room, lovely garden and a great location. Local pub within 10/15 minute stroll which has a great selection of beers and food. Thoroughly recommended.

Hoopell's Toor is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. The rooms are very spacious and well-equipped with views over the immaculate garden. The beds are a highlight-gorgeous linen and excellent mattress ensured a good sleep every night. Breakfast is delicious and the daily specials are a welcome change from the usual 'full English' options. Be aware that the breakfast table is shared with the other bedroom, which may not suit everyone. The location is very remote so a car is essential, with a brave driver as some roads are quite hairy! Simon and Jeeva are relaxed and amenable hosts-thank you!

Aliya, London

We had a great week at Hoopells Torr with Jeeva and Simon. Both were very welcoming and did as much as they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Rooms are very comfortable and finished to a high standard. Breakfasts were very imaginative with daily specials and high quality ingredients. Easy access to local beaches, footpaths and other villages an added bonus. We will definitely keep on our list of places to return to.

Sue, Kingswinford

We stayed two nights at Hooppells and are already looking for when we can next go. The room was fantastic, beautifully decorated, spacious, a gorgeous bathroom with roll-top bath. The location of Hooppells was brilliant - a short drive to most of the best spots in South Devon, but also just a downhill stroll away from a stunning beach and longer coastal walk. Simon and Jeeva were fantastic hosts. The breakfasts each morning were delicious and they accommodated our dietary requirements perfectly. We have recommended to everyone to stay!

Joe, London

Thank you for an amazing stay! Beautiful room and perfect location for touristing around the south Devon coast! The breakfasts were stunning and both Jeeva and Simon were super friendly and welcoming! Very sad to leave!

Fred, Leeds

Thank you so much for a relaxing break! Excellent breakfasts and beautiful location. Simon's cooking was phenomenal! Thank you for a wonderful break.

Lucy, Cheltenham

We had a truly memorable stay at Hooppells Torr and can’t wait to visit again. Our room was lovely with such attention to detail, and the grounds were absolutely beautiful! Simon and Jeeva were wonderful hosts and really made our stay feel special, with their extensive knowledge of the local area and of course the restaurant quality breakfasts which would be hard to beat! Thanks again to Simon, Jeeva and Luke for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Shehara, St. Albans

A beautiful place to spend our first weekend as husband and wife. Thank you so much to hosts Jeeva and Simon for their friendly hospitality, nothing was too much trouble for them even finding me a vase for my wedding bouquet! The room was beautiful and the breakfast options had plenty of choice and everything was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend a visit!

Fiona, Exeter

A wonderfully relaxing stay and delicious breakfasts. Delightful!

Jill, Wotton under Edge

Hooppell's Tor is the perfect place to stay and unwind. Quiet peace, in the most beautiful surroundings. My light filled, beautifully styled bedroom/bathroom was a haven for reading/relaxing as there is no general area for guests, future note? I explored the wonderfully atmospheric gardens every day. Delicious inventive breakfasts, with friendly attentive service from Simon and Jeeva, fresh espresso in the dining room please! Unfortunately the pool was closed which was disappointing given original booking references and high end pricing. A car is a must due to isolation. I will be back!

Anna, London

We had a fantastic two night stay with Jeeva and Simon. Simon’s breakfasts were incredible and we loved looking out over their stunning garden as we ate them! The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and stylish. We will be back!

Fiona, London

We loved our stay with Simon and Jeeva. Home from home except the breakfasts - wow! We felt very looked after and attended to. Thank you. A return visit is on the cards …

Jane and John, Bourton, Dorset

A delightful stay in an amazing country setting. Jeeva and Simon were both very welcoming and made us feel immediately at home on arrival. The homemade breakfasts were varied and always delicious - including homegrown produce from the garden. We were there two nights but could easily have stayed longer - would recommend to anyone.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re on the outskirts of Kingston, where the Dolphin pub offers good food and a friendly welcome. If you’re after something fresh from the sea, a 10-minute drive to the Oyster Shack in Bigbury will please. Here in the South Devon AONB, all the stunning beaches, stately homes and strenuous outdoor activity you’ll need to work off that breakfast are an easy drive away, and the South West coastal path obligingly runs right past the village church.

Local points of interest from Jeeva & Simon Beckett

  • Stroll to our fabulous local beach, Wonwell, just over a mile away. The village sits on the South West Coast Path and boasts a brilliant circular coastal walk that starts outside the church and takes in our 16th century local pub.
  • Visit Bigbury-on-Sea, just 10 minutes’ drive away, for surfing lessons or take the sea tractor to Burgh Island and enjoy a drink at the Pilchard Inn. Breathe in the fresh sea air and relax.
  • Explore Dartmoor's rugged landscape, granite tors, wooded valleys and mysterious stone circles. The National Park is only 20 minutes away.
  • Enjoy seasonal crab, lobster, oysters and fish at The Oyster Shack, local meats and game at The Ship Inn and enormous Sunday lunches at The Journey's End. All within a 15 minute drive.
  • Join a gin distillery tour at the hip new Salcombe Gin or historic Plymouth Gin in the city's old Barbican quarter. Take a masterclass where you can create and distil your very own bottle to take home.
  • Antique showrooms, independent shops, tea houses, delis and affordable art galleries can be found in nearby Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Ashburton and Totnes.
