The
Experience
Lovely Stokenham House gazes at the sea and the bird-rich Slapton Ley. Iona and Paul – an energetic and thoughtful, imaginative couple – have created a super South Hams base: huge chill-out cushions on the lawn, summerhouse in the pretty banked garden, BBQ by the pool. It’s grand yet laid-back, with a fine drawing room, big conservatory and a family-friendly feel. Learn to cook or grow veg, invite friends for dinner, host your own party: Iona is a superb cook. The funky large annexe suite is very private; generous bedrooms in the house are decked in vintage fabrics and papers, and have single rooms off.

Iona & Paul are wonderful hosts, welcoming us into their beautiful home. We spent a rainy birthday weekend in the Annexe, and experienced Iona's delicious cooking on Saturday night. We discussed our preferences via email beforehand and it surpassed our expectations. Paul also delivered a powerful workshop for my husband which was inspirational and very motivating. I would recommend staying at Stokenham House and imagine it is even more lovely in the sunshine!

An excellent example of the best of English hospitality. We were travelling with our two young children and were graciously welcomed into the family room, which is large, bright, clean and well equipped, by Iona, who is a thoroughly kind, punctual and generous hostess. We were spoiled with big and beautiful breakfasts and a candle-lit meal, all made with locally produced ingredients. Definitely ticked all of our boxes - highly recommended!

Stokenham House is a lovely large house with attractive gardens in a quiet spot on the edge of Stokenham, just a mile or two from the sea and beaches at Torcross. Iona was very friendly and helpful in her initial correspondence by e-mail, and more so in person. The house has a grand feel and I was fortunate to stay in a large bedroom in the main house – the biggest B&B room I stayed in during the 56-day fundraising walk I was doing. It had a large, comfortable double bed, garden views and a separate toilet and bathroom. Iona cooked me a very nice full English breakfast in the morning.

We cannot recommend the beautiful Stokenham House enough. Iona and Paul are so warm friendly and welcoming and made us feel very comfortable in their home. They made every effort to ensure we had all we needed for our stay, and the breakfast was delicious! We would definitely visit again to see more of the beautiful local beaches and coastal towns. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at Stokenham House. We brought our 2 young daughters (aged 3 and 5) and Iona and Paul were very relaxed with them and they made us feel at home. Great set up for families - we had a key to our down external door and a family suite with interconnecting doors between our bedroom (with enormous and really comfy super king bed) and ensuite twin room for the girls. The hosts were very welcoming and convivial and to top it all off, Iona is a superb cook / chef. We had wonderful breakfasts and she cooked a truly superb 3 course meal for us one night. Highly recommended.

We visited Stokenham House with our two preschoolers and stayed in their family suite, which was supremely comfortable. Paul and Iona are fantastic hosts, who make their guests feel genuinely at home with them. The breakfasts were superb, as was the dinner they cooked for us one night. They gave us excellent local tip offs for days out; we really felt we had seen some hidden gems. I've been to several places that call themselves child-friendly but this is the first time I've felt it was truly heartfelt.

Wonderful stay with The Jepson Family at Stokenham House which is a home from home and where we were made to feel so welcome. My daughters (8 and 5) were delighted with their lovely bedroom and very happy to have friends in Sally and Rolf (the Labradoodle) when we weren't out and about. Iona makes the best breakfasts. My husband tried duck eggs for the first time and the girls were able to have exactly what they wanted whether that was nutella on toast or a local award winning sausage. This is the kind of place where you feel like you are staying with friends. We will definitely be going back!

Wonderful hosts in an idyllic part of the world. We booked for half term at fairly short notice as a family of five with children aged 7, 5 and 7 months. Iona was a wonderful host, cooked a fantastic breakfast and we felt incredibly relaxed and well looked after. Extremely close to a fantastic beach and many good restaurants. We will return and can't recommend highly enough!

This is a truly fantastic place to stay both with or without an 11 month old baby (as we had). The house is beautiful, the hosts are warm, generous and excellent cooks, and the baby sitting a life line! No task is too much trouble for the hosts including finding an old mobile phone in a cupboard that entertained our baby for hours on end.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Iona & Paul Jepson
- The best of both worlds: the house is walking distance to two pubs and many beaches, but sits quietly just outside the village.
- A short drive to both Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, plus loads of other places to eat, visit, see and experience.
- Lots of family days out either on one of the many beaches, taking a boat trip or maybe walking over to Burgh Island
- We have super fast broadband and sonos can be played throughout the main reception rooms

So glad we were able to book a twin room here as part of our walking trip on the South West Coast Path. Everywhere else in the area could only offer double rooms for two-night stays. This place was wonderful, and as we arrived drenched to the skin, we welcomed the space, warmth and comfort to dry out for the next day. Iona and Paul are brilliant hosts and we loved our breakfast - especially Iona's home-made marmalade. Highly recommended.
