The Old Cellar

What a piece of paradise! The gentle taming of the beautiful valley view from the Old Cellar is breathtaking; a privilege to explore the gardens and ponds with a spring birdsong soundscape. We chose Mary Ann’s delicious fish pie with accompaniments for our arrival evening and enjoyed Otter Amber and gin. We walked the Blackdown Hills from the cottage, hiked Dartmoor and the coastal path. Our teens baked bread and hot cross buns, watched scary films at night in the cosy shed and created memories for life. Mary Ann, David and the family are discreet but available. Very highly recommended.

The Old Cellar is homely, warm, well stocked and extremely comfortable set in a beautiful countryside location. Mary Anne and David are incredibly welcoming, generous hosts and kindly left us croissants, bread, homemade granola and marmalade, a pup of their own delicious ale and more! We wished for nothing. The cottage is totally private and overlooks the beautiful gardens. The onsite Otter Brewery does not impact the peace and quiet at all. In fact, it’s a bonus as delicious beer and brewery tours are on your doorstep. We highly recommend a stay here and will hopefully return.

The Old Cellar is in a beautiful setting and has every facility required for a comfortable stay. Mary Ann and David could not have been more hospitable and we enjoyed our week enormously. We would like to return one day soon.

We were on a foodie tour of Devon and stopped off at The Old Cellar, to see if it might be a nice place to stay another time. Mary Ann was so welcoming and The Old Cellar is absolutely magical. A lovely cosey cottage with everything you could ever want and in a really beautiful garden. We will make plans to stay on our next visit to Devon.

The Old Cellar is a true gem - wonderful hospitality, gorgeous accommodation and all in a breathtaking location. We adored our time here and are looking forward to returning. It’s a very special place indeed.

A truly magical place to rest and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. You’ll sleep deeply in the comfy beds and have the warmest of welcomes from generous hosts. The Old Cellar is a perfect bolt hole to return to after exploring beautiful East Devon. A real gem.

A happy week in superb accommodation, surrounded by peaceful, bird-filled garden. Friendly owners made the stay special with brewery tour, food gifts and welcoming daffodils. Torn between enjoying the comfortable cottage or exploring beautiful Devon. We managed both.

We and another couple had a lovely stay at the Old Cellar. Mary Anne was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Providing great recommendations for places to eat and the best beaches to visit. If you are looking for a place to relax and reset this is the place to stay. Lovely walks around the gardens and only a short drive to many a lovely beach. Would highly recommend the brewery tour with David, Mary Anne's husband. Its great to see the process of brewing from start all the way to the finish of the beer getting put into barrels. Can't wait for our next visit.

We had a wonderful relaxing three nights at the old cellar. Mary Anne and David were lovely hosts. the garden is a credit to Mary and we so enjoyed walking around it with our dog. Beautiful far reaching views across the otter valley. we shall certainly return.

If you want a bolthole off the beaten track and in the middle of some of the lovelist scenery Devon can provide, then the Old Cellar is for you. Mary and David were the most welcoming of hosts, and provided a lovely home from home environment. Mary's cooking is outstanding, and David gave us a fabulous tour of the brewery on site. The property itself is very well appointed, comfortable and in a beautiful setting: a garden that Mary has worked on for 30 plus years. And our dog loved his very own swimming pond: all we heard from the terrace was him splashing around! We didn't want to leave!

We spent a wonderfully, relaxing time at the Old Cellar - thank you Mary Ann and David for a lovely warm welcome. The cottage is delightful and the views from the terrace exceptional. Mary Ann's fish pie is highly recommended, as was the "pup" of Otter Amber Beer waiting for us in its bespoke 'fridge. We wish we'd had more time to check out the rest of the “menu”! Sadly, we only had five nights there, but the relaxing surroundings certainly did the trick for us. Many thanks to David for the brewery tour and to the dogs for their company. We hope to return! Thank you Mary-Anne and David for the most delightful stay. Your property is stupendous. From the beautiful views, wildlife, home cooked meals and your warm welcome, to us and our daft Spaniel, we could not have had a better relaxing holiday. To wander through your extensive gardens was a joy. We thoroughly enjoyed the fascinating tour of your brewery and gin distillery, and will enjoy your New Moon gin for a few more days too! For anyone apprehensive of staying at a brewery can we assure you that we weren’t disturbed at all. We will be back and we’ll look forward to returning immensely.

A wonderful stay at the famous Otter Brewery. The Old Cellar was perfectly appointed and tremendously cosy with all the feeling of an old cottage, but with the hidden comforts such as underfloor heating. Mary-Ann pointed us to The Holt - her son's pub in Honiton where we enjoyed our first pub outing in a long time! In the morning, we sat and enjoyed our tea with the French doors open, overlooking the beautifully curated garden, with the songs of blackcaps and thrushes. This is a wonderful little bolthole for walkers, birdwatchers, and beer lovers alike!
