The Experience

Neat-as-a-pin bedrooms have their own entrance through a thatched porch: the garden room downstairs is light and sunny with doors to a south west facing private gravelled courtyard. The Blue Room upstairs is equally pretty and both have en suite wet rooms with Linden soaps and gels, a table for breakfast if you choose, a mini fridge and wine glasses.

Breakfast can be had in your room or down in the lovely big kitchen with its bi-folding doors to the garden. Louisa makes homemade jams, marmalade, compotes with fruit from the garden and homemade granola and yogurt pots. Cooked options include eggs from the next village, bacon and sausages from the local butcher, bread from the bakery and honey from Broadmayne.

The village has a pretty church, St Martin’s, to explore, and there are circular walks or cycles from the village into beautiful countryside. You’ll find lots of information in your bedroom or just ask Louisa.

Reviews

Thank you Tom and Louisa Loasby for your great hospitality. Everything was perfect, we had a comfortable bedroom with tasteful decor and delicious breakfast. We enjoyed our time relaxing and exploring Dorset. We highly recommend Barton Cottage.

Lesley, Melrose

A very civilised, grown up sort of place with lots of independence and a huge choice at breakfast. Louisa is a professional chef so you are fed very well.

Nicola, Sawday's inspector

Barton Cottage is an absolute delight! The room was beautiful and the thoughtful touches like fresh flowers from the garden made it all the more welcoming. You can tell that so much thought has gone into the decor and furnishings. The added bonus of outdoor seating was a real treat in the sunshine. I cannot fault Louisa & Tom on their relaxed and friendly manner, not to mention the delicious breakfast! A truly relaxing and wonderful location that I'd recommend to anyone.

Location

The neighbourhood

Broadmayne is a thriving village on the way to the coast so the main road runs through it. 100 yards away is the village post office which sells almost everything and there are two pubs for a fine pint. Piddle Brewery is eight miles away, Dorchester is four miles for independent shops and a market on Wednesdays. The Wise Man at West Stafford is a 10-minute drive and the coast is walkable.

Local points of interest from Louisa Loasby

  • 10 minutes from the coast
  • Perfect for exploring the jurassic coast
  • There is a very good pub in the village
  • Great access to Studland, Corfe Castle, Lulworth and Durdle Door
  • Explore many National Trust and English Heritage sites

Introducing

Louisa Loasby

Louisa is a professional chef and her husband Tom an engineer and captain - they met while they were both working on super-yachts. They bought this house specifically to renovate it for running a B&B and keeping the other side of the house for them and their two children. Louisa grew up in a B&B so looking after people comes naturally to her. You may meet Purdey the wire-haired dachshund.
