The Experience

You’ll find an easy, open-plan layout here, and you can use all the rooms as you like, so get your book and spend an hour on the sofa, wander into the kitchen and see what Lyn’s up to or have a drink on the terrace. Bedrooms and bathrooms have all the trimmings, from robes to Bramley goodies, and you can book treatments.

Lyn makes a cake every day for the breakfast table. Enjoy home-toasted granola too, along with freshly ground coffee and seasonal juices, perhaps smoked salmon and eggs on Aga sourdough or a full Dorset with bacon and sausages from the organic farm down the road, homemade baked beans, pancakes and more.

Lyme will keep you busy but if you want to venture further then visit pretty fishing villages Beer and Branscombe (10 minutes); or Bridport with its bustling Saturday market (20 minutes). Walk up Golden Cap (the south coast’s highest point and with the loveliest views) from Eype (15 minutes) and end up at Seatown’s Anchor Inn.

Reviews

Wonderful stay. Made really welcome on arrival and as the reviews say totally amazing breakfasts. We stayed in Church View for 3 nights which was perfect in every way. We will be definitely back same time next year. Full 5 star stay. Thoroughly recommended.

Fabulous stay at a wonderful home. Lyn & Jason mad us feel very welcome. Stayed in the Lighthouse Suite, very well furnished and spacious. Each day started with the best breakfast with brilliant attention to detail.

David, Pulborough

A wonderful B&B. Comfortable bed. Lovely views. Close to town centre. The breakfasts were amazing. Great choice, fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked. We could be tempted to drive from Gloucestershire just for the breakfasts! Everything had been thought through and the staff really took care of us. The decor was stylish and comfortable. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dorset House to anyone.

We had a fantastic relaxing weekend stay at Dorset House. From the moment that we arrived, we felt welcome and safe (considering that Covid is still a concern.) The house is beautifully decorated (I loved the snug with the honesty bar!) and our room was lovely; the bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot.The Bramley toiletries were a nice touch. I have to mention the breakfasts... I'm not sure I've ever had such delicious breakfasts or such a difficult time working out what to order! I'd definitely recommend Dorset House for a relaxing, seaside break.

Jill, Oxford

We absolutely loved our stay at Dorset House- the seaside view room is stylish and comfortable with a bed that is difficult to get out of.The breakfast was fantastic - top notch ingredients cooked to perfection. Jason and Lynn are wonderful hosts - having stayed in hotels over the summer where service left a lot to be desired it was refreshing to remember what great service feels like. We enjoyed our walks along the coast and coming back to sit by the fire enjoying local drinks from the honesty bar was the perfect reward. We will definitely stay again .

Ruth, Bristol

The place is very tastefully decorated, and the food is delicious. Everything is high quality, and the owners were great hosts. We went fossil hunting and found many fossils, which was a lot of fun! This was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this place.

Veronica, Bristol

We loved everything about our first stay at Dorset House. The quality and comfort of the decor and furnishings to the thought and care given to the food at breakfast was superb. What really made it was the open, friendly and warm welcome given to us by Jason and Lyn. Definitely intend a return visit sometime in 2020.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house is at the top of the hill on the main road leading down to Lyme's lively Broad Street and the sea front. Everything in Lyme is walkable from the B&B, including lots of good places to eat. The Town Mill has art galleries, brewery, courtyard cafe, crafty shops. There’s plenty to see and do: Marine Theatre, museums, aquarium, antique centre and Dinosaurland Museum; stand on the historic Cobb, go fossil hunting, book a fishing trip or pack up a picnic and head for a pebble or sand beach.

  • Lyn swims in the sea every morning before breakfast - you are very welcome to join her for an invigorating dip.

Introducing

Lyn & Jase Martin

Lyn and Jase left hectic marketing jobs in Oxfordshire when this house came on the market. They'd been looking for a place for a while and loved Lyme, having been on holiday there before. The place was run down and in desperate need of TLC so it was a big project to take on. Jase is a tennis coach and Lyn is passionate about good food, from sourcing to home producing, as well as health and wellbeing.
