The Experience

Immerse yourself in art, great food, live music, theatres and a cool, independent, cinema – all just a mile and a half from gorgeous West Bay beach. Bridport is a happy, bustling little place with twice weekly markets of antiques, retro furniture and stuff from good local food producers. The coastal path is here for bracing walks in either direction, just inland are miles of gentle, rolling hills. When you’re sated return to two light beautifully-designed apartments in a Georgian building next to the Arts Centre. There’s a bookshop on the ground floor: you let yourselves in with a key safe and climb stairs to the first apartment, Book Club, and up further to Art Studio. You’ll find large living rooms in shades of greys and creams, sash windows, pretty blue velvet sofas, funky vintage furniture and lots of interesting books. Sleek kitchens run along living room walls and both have all you need to cook up a storm, good lighting and proper coffee machines. Bedrooms have sumptuous linen from Harrods, bathrooms are gleaming and new. These are great for one or two couples to have a thorough explore of the area.

Local points of interest from Katie Arnaud-White

  • Bridport packs a punch with lots of great restaurants, a wonderfully British hat festival, a food festival and that’s without mentioning the gourmet farmers market literally on the doorstep of Little Boutique Club.
  • Enjoy coastal and countryside walks for all seasons along the famous Jurassic coast. Cliff-line walks, village strolls and stumbling across quaint country pubs and beachside cafés.
  • For a sophisticated meal and great cocktails drive up the Cliff at Burton and visit the amazing Seaside Boarding House. Restaurant and Cocktail bar. They recently started serving afternoon tea!
  • Nearby West Bay (home to the popular TV series Broadchurch) has a small fishing harbour, and the best fish & chips, Check out Rachel’s.
  • On the door-step is a thriving arts centre with its very own film festival in April (Page-to-Screen). Bridport Arts Centre is a Dorset-based contemporary arts venue, running over 300 events a year.
