Old Monmouth

Lyme Regis, Dorset
Bed & Breakfast

Tudor house full of colour and stories, a hop from stunning Lyme Bay. French country style rooms, fruity breakfasts and generous hosts

Rooms sleep 8

Tudor townhouse with a colourful past – The Duke of Monmouth, Oscar Wilde, a box of love letters found after WWII American soldiers stayed… Tony and Alex have loved discovering the history and bringing this old house back to life. They’re a creative, immensely likeable pair and their vintage finds from French trips abound. Bedrooms are romantic with lavender-scented drawers, tea trays, perhaps an antique gilt mirror, Liberty wallpaper or flame-pink cushion. There’s a summery breakfast room, wood fires burning bright all winter and orchids in every corner. Walk along The Cobb, explore the coast path; sailing, great restaurants, famous gardens too.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Tony & Alex Kossykh-Bearman

  • Walk behind St Michael's Church, which is directly in front of the house and enjoy the most stunning views of the Jurassic Coast, including Golden Cap, Chesil Beach and Charmouth.
  • Take the Southwest Coast Path along bridle paths both east and west of Lyme Regis and country walks, including to famous Ware House, where The French Lieutenant's Woman was filmed, Cannington Viaduct near Uplyme, Axe estuary, Lambert's Castle and many more
  • Explore the thriving food scene of West Dorset, including Dorshi in Bridport and The Club House in West Bexington. Or stay in Lyme and sample the best it has to offer: The Alexandra Hotel Restaurant, Hix Oyster Bar, Millside Restaurant and Tierra Kitchen.
  • Fossil hunting at its best! Explore beaches around Lyme Regis, which are part of England's first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best place on the Jurassic Coast to unearth your own fossils, no matter if you are a beginner or a keen fossil hunter.
  • Discover Lyme Regis, there are plenty of independent shops and galleries. We have an abundance of events throughout the year, from the Fossil Festival in April to Regatta Week in August, the Folk Festival in September to our Jazz Festival in May.
  • Come back to The Old Monmouth and enjoy a good book or a magazine in our guest snug with a cup of tea/coffee or a glass of wine. Our wood burner makes autumn and winter evenings so cosy.
