The Experience

Tudor townhouse with a colourful past – the Duke of Monmouth, Oscar Wilde, a box of love letters found after WWII American soldiers stayed… Tony and Alex have loved discovering the history and bringing this old house back to life. They’re a creative, immensely likeable pair and their vintage finds from French trips abound. Bedrooms are romantic with lavender-scented drawers, tea trays, perhaps an antique gilt mirror, Liberty wallpaper or flame-pink cushion. There’s a summery breakfast room, wood fires burning bright all winter and orchids in every corner. Walk along The Cobb, explore the coast path; sailing, great restaurants, famous gardens too.

What a great find in an ideal location - especially out of season! Close to the front and all that Lyme Regis has to offer. Alex and Tony were the perfect hosts - you couldn't have asked for anything better. The room was comfortable, warm and spotless. In the late afternoon the log burner was lit for your return from a long walk or the cold sea air. And the breakfasts were scrummy too. Highly recommended - try it and see!

We have just spent a night at the Old Monmouth. This B & B is really quite wonderful. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Tony. Our room was perfect - the four poster bed was magnificent, the bedding luxurious, and the bathroom modern and spacious. We were served coffee in the snug (which is a delight in itself) and Tony suggested where we might eat that evening. Lots of excellent choices within a couple of minutes walk. Ideal location - through the churchyard to a panoramic view of the Jurassic Coast. Superb breakfast. First class!

What a delight! I could not have had a more comfortable stay at the picturesque Old Monmouth. From the peaceful night wrapped in soft linen to the sumptuous breakfast prepared in the morning, the entire stay was a dream. Nothing was too much of a bother for Alex and Tony. If you are thinking of coming to Lyme Regis you simply must stay here. I can't wait to return.

We came to Lyme Regis for Jazz Jurassica over the Bank Holiday and stayed at The Old Monmouth. Tony & Alex have restored the old house creating a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. There is a snug for simply relaxing,a light and airy breakfast room ( a delicious breakfast and the fresh fruit compote is to die for). The bedrooms individually designed( no corporate identity here).Ours was The Cobb immaculately presented and comfortable with a sea view. Tony&Alex are the perfect hosts thinking of every detail to make their guests comfortable - we will definitely return and highly recommend!

This place is very special. The rooms manage to combine cosy-ness with all the modern touches. The attention to detail is immaculate. The breakfast is delicious and there is lots of variety with local produce and homemade jams. Tony and Alex are the stars of the show and are warm and welcoming without being intrusive. Highly recommended

Wonderful stay at the Old Monmouth! Great location within Lyme Regis -- close to the sea wall and great restaurants. The room was well appointed and extremely comfortable. Tony and Alex are great hosts, and the breakfast is fresh and delicious. Definitely would stay again.

A wonderful stay at Old Monmouth. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the deep window-seat. Tony is a very attentive host and makes delicious breakfasts - do try the homemade marmalade. I'd also highly recommend the local vegetarian restaurant; I am still dreaming about their delicious take on Queen of Puddings.

The Old Monmouth was perfect for our large family holiday! Such lovely rooms and communal Spaces and a fantastic kitchen for us to cater for 10! Tony and Alex made a special effort to decorate it with flowers as they were aware it was my parent’s 70ths which was lovely touch and we were greated with wine as a welcome! We could walk to the beach and all the local amenities and there was lots of information in the house about walks, where to go etc. The whole place was so clean and comfortable, had a lovely atmosphere and ideally located. We are seriously thinking of booking again!

The Old Monmouth was extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming. All the facilities are excellent and the lounge (s) were an added bonus, all this contributing to a thoroughly enjoyable week. I would highly recommend "The Old Monmouth"

This was my second visit to Lyme Regis and staying at Old Monmouth. I was visiting the area for a friend’s wedding and was glad to hear that Old Monmouth had a room available for me as I had enjoyed my stay there so much last time. I managed to find time to go on walks in the local area this time which Tony and Alex were great advising me on. Just as last time the Old Monmouth was immaculate. This time I stayed in the Cobb room which had great views over the local area and toward the sea. The breakfast was delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend the Old Monmouth
