The Experience

Two chic cottages in a majestic estate flanked by orchards and organic vegetable gardens. Take a drink – or sketchpad – to the terrace for views of Wimborne Minster, distant cricket matches and the birds over Stour Meadows; sunsets are stunning. Exposed stonework reflects the 18th-century origins of these Georgian gardeners’ cottages. Clean-lined interiors reflect 21st-century design. Spotlights gleam off brick walls washed in porcelain white, a rustic yet contemporary canvas for original oils, vintage chairs, oriental cushions. Apple has an inglenook fireplace, Plum a spacious elm table to enjoy if you take both cottages together. Sisal carpets lead to simple bedrooms where linen blinds frame meadow views. Cook and eat in modern country kitchens then step out to a private garden lined with fruit trees; each cottage has it’s own gravel patio with removable fencing allowing them to be opened up when booking Apple and Plum together. Plum comes with its own shepherd’s hut: duck egg blue walls and a French enamelled wood-burner. An easy walk from historic Wimborne, a short drive from blue flag beaches at Poole and Bournemouth, and perfect for big groups who can book both cottages and the nearby Gate House.

Reviews

Nick, Devon

We had a wonderful stay at Apple Cottage in April, such a tranquil spot by the blossoming orchard with the minster in the distance. Everything perfect from the duvets, to the welcoming goodies and the lovely garden. We shall be back.

Our 10th visit. What more can we say other than ...we will be back! Thanks for another great stay.

Steve, Norway

Our fourth time here and it definitely wont be the last, I honestly cant think of anywhere better to spend a few days and unwind. Speaking personally, as an expat of 40 years with close ties to Upton House, the ambience as I walk through the gate always takes me back to a very special place, although my children and Norwegian grandchildren love it too. In addition to the premises themselves, the service provided is superb with a perfect balance between personable and professional. Keep doing what you're doing and see you again soon!

Philip, Llangrannog

Our 4th stay at Plum Cottage, cannot fault the property and we love the location in the middle of Wimborne. Always so relaxing and we look forward to returning again soon. Great walks along the river.

Mary, Chelmsford

We stayed in Apple Cottage for 4 nights in September. Perhaps the greatest endorsment we could give is that this was our 8th visit over the last 5 years sometimes in a group of 3, 4 or 6. Every visit has been fantastic . We love staying in this quiet location, yet within the beautiful town of Wimborne. On this occasion, there was a fairly large wedding taking place yet we were not disturbed in any way at all. The cottage is comfortable and well equiped. needless to say, we will be returning!

Local points of interest from Jonathan Cornish

  • Situated within the grounds of Deans Court, these C18th farm-hands’ cottages have been renovated to provide contemporary comfort in a rural setting.
  • To get the cottages you will drive past the walled-kitchen garden, where vegetables are grown for our veg baskets.
  • Visit the Deans Court Cafe, enjoy salads, soups, homemade quiches, cakes etc. Open everyday except Sunday. Also pop into our vintage shop situated in a converted squash court adjacent to the cafe.
  • An easy walk from historic Wimborne, with a great selection of restaurants and shops. (Including a Waitrose)
  • For large groups, we also have The Gate House (sleeping 16) and we can arrange for all levels of catering as suits your needs - get in touch for more info.
