The
Experience

Exhausted parents love this place. The converted barn, with its playroom, on-demand babysitter, dolls house and sun-loungers, is designed for the whole family to kick back, have fun and feel cossetted. Claudia and husband, who live next door, have the art of entertaining children nailed. There’s a paddling pool and sand-pit in the garden, separate playroom stuffed with toys and games, and all the paraphernalia, from sterilising equipment to baby bath to pushchairs, that harassed parents need. Creamy walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted ceiling give the open-plan living space a calm feel while sleek furnishings, oak floors and a wood-burning stove make it both practical and homely. A sparkling-white, fully-equipped kitchen with zinc-topped dining table ensures cooking is a treat. White-and-cream bedrooms are compact but inviting: king-size bed, purple accent colours and French windows in one; bunk-beds, pretty gingham covers and cot in the other. Bathrooms are boutique-hotel stylish. A children’s farm plus beaches are 30 to 40 minutes’ while Farnham is thatched-cottage sleepy – with playground and excellent pub!

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Claudia Malpas

  • Idyllic village in heart of Dorset countryside, full of pretty thatched cottages, beautiful walks on your doorstep, with the award-winning gastro pub 'The Museum Inn' a stone's throw away.
  • The perfect place for young families, all the baby equipment you could possibly need, your own private playroom overflowing with toys. The village playground is perfect for little ones and nearby is Moors Valley Country Park with endless kids activities.
  • The long unspoilt beaches of the Jurassic coast are 45 minutes away, with endless possibilities for days out - Studland beach, Corfe Castle, lunch at 'The Pig on The Beach', Swanage Steam Railway, Lulworth Cove, fossil hunting at Kimmeridge Bay....
  • Pamper yourself at 'Sarpenela' just up the road from The Cowshed, where you can choose from a wide variety of holistic therapies or simply go for a well-deserved massage.
  • Farnham village is very lucky to be at the heart of an amazing selection of great eating places! The Museum Inn in the village and The King John Pub in the next door village are both award-winning gastropubs. And now '10 Castle Street' in Cranborne...
  • Take a day trip to Longleat Safari Park or Peppa Pig World and your children will love you! Or there's Monkey World, Salisbury Cathedral, Old Wardour Castle and Gold Hill in Shaftesbury made famous by the "hovis' advert.
