The Experience

Stylish country living in a wool-dyeing shed transformed into a serene bolthole for two. It’s only a couple of miles from charming Wimborne Minster but after bumping down the track to Sarah and David’s lovely farmhouse, you’ll feel deep in rural peace. Built as a cowshed with traditional red bricks in the 19th century, it has been creatively restored. Green window frames brighten the façade; inside, natural materials including slate and oak complement original exposed timbers and vaulted ceilings. Creamy white walls contrast beautifully with vibrant kilims and fabrics chosen by Sarah, a textile designer, while shelves are stacked with maps and fascinating books on the local area – published by David. Plump sofas surround a contemporary wood-burner and there’s a cosy farmhouse kitchen where you can breakfast in the morning sunshine. Back through the sitting room, step into a spacious bedroom with an elegant iron bed dressed in fine linen; there’s a smart shower room stocked with fluffy towels and deliciously scented bath products too. Hop in the car to explore sandy beaches and sleepy villages.

Another great stay at The Wool Store. The perfect getaway after Lockdown! Sarah and David so friendly and helpful - really appreciated the personal touches like Dorset coffee, muesli, home made marmalade etc... and so nice to get back to the wood burner after striding out along the coast! Comfy bed and great shower - what more could you want!

We had such a lovely stay at the Wool Store just after Christmas - a perfect 5 night stay. Kitchen so well equipped and plenty of wood for the wood burner. David and Sarah very friendly and helpful - perfectly located for coastal and inland walks.

We had a wonderful 10 night stay at the Wool Store. It was immaculate, well equipped and spacious. The kingsize bed was very comfortable and so were the two sofas. The bathroom shower was great and the washing machine too. The Store is in an ideal location for shops, restaurants, beaches and places of interest. Sarah and David were excellent hosts, welcoming and nothing was to much trouble for them. We enjoyed David's home grown tomatoes and carrots. We would definitely recommend the Wool Store.

We had a wonderful stay at the Wool store over the last bank holiday weekend of May and loved it! It’s really spacious with a big, really comfortable bed and great shower and we spent many a lazy morning soaking up the sun in the courtyard out front. Sarah and David were very welcoming and attentive hosts and we couldn’t recommend it more!

Natasha, Harpenden

The Wool Store was a comfortable cottage perfect for the two of us. The log burner added to the cozy atmosphere, and the kitchen, though small, had everything we needed. The bathroom shower was great! David and Sarah were very welcoming hosts. We drove past the drive at first, as we were looking for a village, and it isn't really in a village, but after the first time, it was easy.

Sally, Vancouver

An extremely pleasant stay in excellent accommodation. A lovely well appointed cottage, everything is to a high standard and Sarah and David are more than happy to help in recommending places to visit etc. Located within easy reach of many attractive locations this is the perfect place to stay, lots of good pubs for dining and ideal to just relax, highly recommended.

We have alot of weekends away and The Wool Store was one of the best cottages that we have stayed in. The cottage was pretty, clean and well-equipped. David and Sarah were incredibly welcoming and supplied us with delicious homemade marmalade for our stay together with fresh bread and tea and coffee. There was lots of information in the villa about things to do and places to visit. The broadband was very powerful which was a good facility to have. We would highly recommend the cottage and hope to return

We had a delightful stay at the Wool Store. Sarah and David made us very welcome. The store is very comfortable, well-equipped, cosy and spacious. It is also very convenient for some of the loveliest parts of Dorset. We thoroughly recommend it.

Stayed at The Wool Store for three nights in September 2017. Found the accommodation excellent. Just what you need for two people. Well equipped, cosy, clean, and we'll placed for Dorset attractions. Friendly, helpful hosts. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Paul, Amotherby North Yorkshire

Delightful and cosy little place in a beautiful part of the country. Impeccably clean and the hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. I would definitely go back.

We have just returned from a delightful few days at The Wool Store. We were made very welcome by Sarah & David. The cottage was very well equipped, warm and cosy. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Wool Store and hope to return ourselves in the not too distant future.

Vicky, Esher, Surrey

loved the the Wool Store David and Sarah Burnett were most helpful. They gave us some lovely marmalade which we took home and was wonderful. Thank you

I stayed at the Wool Store for 10 nights during mid March. It was absolutely wonderful. Sarah and David, have decorated and furnished this cottage beautifully - comfy sofas, a lovely bed and wonderful art and textiles. And their welcome and hosting were excellent. There's plenty of information about the area, and Dorset in general, with many books and maps. Spent most evenings sat in front of the excellent log burner reading them! A four minute drive to Wimborne Minster with its many cafes, restaurants and shops. A really peaceful place where I will definitely find a reason to stay again.

Kae, Sturminster Newton

Our second stay at the Wool Store, as we enjoyed the first so much! The cottage is ideal for two people, with all you need to cook, eat, sleep, and above all, relax, with comfy cushion - filled sofas. The cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated. Hosts, Sarah and David, made us feel really welcome and at home, doing everything to make our stay pleasant. Our first stay was in the summer, when we were able to sit in the sheltered courtyard in the sun; this time it was winter, and we enjoyed having the wood burner in the evenings. The cottage really is a special place!

Judith, Carantec

We stayed 4 nights and were delighted by the accommodation. Warm and comfortable with sufficient kitchen equipment to put an easy meal together, which is just as well as we could not be enticed outside in the evenings! David and Sarah excellent hosts who also provided a lot of information and maps on the area. Good base for Isle of Purbeck but Wimborne and surrounding region has a lot to offer too! One tip- use the provided directions and don't rely on your sat nav- the farmhouse is well hidden.

Jackie, Guildford

We found the Wool Store very comfortable, very homely and very well equipped. The hosts, Sarah and David were extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable about Dorset and their local area. We would happily re-visit the Wool Store again.

Local points of interest from Sarah & David Burnett

  • Wonderful walking country; from local rambles along the River Allen and its water meadows to high downland walks on Cranborne Chase or along the Jurassic coast. The Square & Compass at Worth Matravers does guest beers and ciders and Dorset's best pasties.
  • Bournemouth and Sandbanks beaches. A 12 mile horseshoe of sand that stretches from Hengisbury Head to the entrance to Poole Harbour. Take the ferry over to Studland for bucket and spade bliss, gathering shells, or a brisk walk on an often deserted beach.
  • Poole Harbour. Fishing boats, sailing races, the cross-Channel ferry. 10,000 acres of sheltered tidal water. Perfect for a boat trip round the Harbour and its islands. Take the ferry to Brownsea Island, with its red squirrels, tea-rooms and Harbour views.
  • The historic market town of Wimborne Minster. A lively weekend market, the medieval minster with its hanging library, restaurants and pubs to suit every price. Superb simple lunch at the Squash Court café or a row-the-boat-out supper at the Tickled Pig.
  • Country houses and gardens, which range from the great 17th century mansion of Kingston Lacy (National Trust) to the intimate Jacobean manor house at Cranborne with its famous gardens.
  • Corfe Castle. Visit the great Norman castle or buy a ticket for the Swanage Railway, the steam railway that chugs through the foothills of the Purbecks to the seaside resort of Swanage.
