Urban Beach Hotel

Bournemouth, Dorset

Surfer chic close to Bournemouth with good rooms, sparkling bathrooms and a decked terrace overlooking the road

10 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

A quirky little place with surfer-chic interiors, lovely staff and a happy buzz throughout. You’re on a residential street 500 meters back from the beach; a short stroll leads down to the promenade which you can follow into town. Back at the hotel a relaxed informality reigns. You’ll find circular leather booths, driftwood lamps, a house guitar and surf boards hanging on the wall. There’s a bar for cocktails, candle lanterns scattered about, a table laden with cakes, then the daily papers and cool tunes in the air. Outside, a terrace for all seasons waits, with a roof that disappears when the sun shines and a fire pit for cooler nights. Bedrooms upstairs come in different sizes, but even the smaller rooms are lovely with warm colours, crisp linen and smart bathrooms. The beach waits at the end of the road, seven miles of sand with a surf shop on the way down. Come back for a good meal, perhaps cauliflower soup,  Cornish mussels, a melting chocolate fondant. Urban Reef, Mark & Fiona’s sister restaurant, has a balcony and terrace overlooking the sea, not a bad spot for dinner in summer.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Matt Lawrence

  • On one side of Bournemouth is the beautiful and diverse landscape of the new forest for some proper rambling and of course proper pubs.
  • On our other side of Bournemouth is the sea vast stretches of sandy beach and most notably the start of the awesome Jurassic Coastline which stretches all the way to Weymouth.
  • From Weymouth, visit the magnificent Durdle Door or Kimmeridge ledges. There is Pepper Pig world for the little ones and the Oceanarium great for big kids too.
  • If you fancy a something a little less energetic we have some great suggestions for local eateries and watering holes plus a host of other ideas of how to spend a few days in the area.
  • Live music lovers can walk to the nearby O2 Academy in Boscombe or for the many live theatre, comedy and music acts at the BIC or Pavillion we are a short taxi ride away.
  • For any Cherries fans or fans from other clubs playing at the Vitality Stadium we are one of the nearest hotels to the ground so you can walk and soak up the atmosphere with other fans heading to Kings park.
