The Experience

Deep Dorset with patchwork fields, miles of hedgerows, ancient oaks. Arrive at this farmstead with its old barns and rows of vines, and breathe in the peace. Mary and Nigel are relaxed hosts; find a happy mix of antique and retro, splashes of gingham, artworks, family photos, flowers. Solar heats the water; wood fires keep it all toasty. The elegant sitting room has two tables in the window for sunny breakfasts: seasonal fruit, homemade granola and jams, local bacon, good bread. Explore bluebell woods and footpaths, walk the coastal path. Mary has created a wonderful place to stay, and you can book vineyard tours and tastings too.

Friendly hosts, warm welcome, scenic views and a relaxed stay on what is obviously a busy farm. Our accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and with a sea view. The large relaxing guest lounge overlooks the garden and there are lovely walks through the vineyards. If it’s raining hard or fog rolls in, and it did, you can buy a bottle of English sparkling wine to enjoy without venturing out.

Complete peace and silence, lovely house and garden, beautiful room, comfortable bed, great shower, delicious breakfasts, warm welcome - we were very happy staying here and it was a real treat. We very much hope to come back before too long!

Frances, Wallingford

Absolute peace and tranquility in delightful surroundings. Mary was a wonderful host, warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable bed, beautiful views, delicious breakfasts. Thank you.

Helen, Devizes

We wanted place to stay for the night at short notice and were absolutely delighted with this comfortable, friendly and welcoming B & B. A great deal of thought and care has gone into providing a wonderful place to stay and the views are just fantastic. Mary's breakfast was excellent and we had a very interesting tour of the vineyard with Nigel. Definitely one of the best.

What a Great Find Mary opened her doors as a B&B only three weeks ago and is already running her B&B like a seasoned professional. We were warmly welcomed and after our long journey offered refreshments and a delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake which we ate looking over the beautiful countryside towards the sea at Charmouth. Our room was very large with a stunning view to the sea and the bed which was a super kingsize was very comfortable. We also had a large ensuite. The Full English breakfast was excellent. We stayed for three nights but wished we could have stayed for longer.

Enjoyed 4 peaceful nights at this idyllic spacious farmhouse. Wodetone is a large and active vineyard which is well worth exploring. Also on the doorstep are Charmouth Woods which is carpeted with bluebells in the Spring. Our bedroom and en-suite were spacious, comfortable, quiet and with breathtaking views across the vineyard to the sea – where else does your B & B have a view across a vineyard in the UK? Our hosts made us feel very much at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfasts were, from our perspective, perfect, with everything freshly prepared. We shall definitely return!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Mary Riddle

  • Peace and quiet surrounded by vineyards, fields and woods. Our 90 acre farm is a haven for wildlife: deer roam the woods, buzzards call as they spiral overhead and swallows nest in the barns. Night brings huge starry skies and the sound of owls calling.
  • Many wonderful walks from our doorstep. Wander the woods above us for a leisurely stroll after breakfast, particularly lovely at bluebell time. Venture further afield to the Iron Age hill fort of Lambert's castle for amazing views over the Marshwood Vale.
  • Charmouth is only 3 miles away; you can see it from your bedroom window! Great for fossil hunting either alone or on guided walks.. Lovely when the day trippers have gone to take your fish and chips down to the beach and sit in the evening sun.
  • Visit pretty Lyme Regis with it's harbour and sandy beach. Lots of independent shops, galleries and restaurants. Summer events range from Regatta Week to the Lyme Folk Festival. Finish your day at Hix for oysters and fizz overlooking the famous Cobb.
  • Explore the beautiful subtropical gardens at Abbotsbury and visit the swannery nearby. Swans nest along the paths in spring with fluffy cygnets literally at your feet. Stop at the Hive Beach Café on your way back for a fresh sea food lunch and a beach walk
  • If you are interested in wine; we are one of the largest vineyards in the southwest, growing the classic champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier to produce world class English Sparkling Wine. Tours, tastings and wine sales available
