The Experience

Tubs of flowers at the door, Twiglet the dog to pat and a friendly feel throughout. Jacky moved from London to this charming village house and has restored and decorated with natural style: new oak floors, stripped beams, polished antique pieces. Bedrooms have well-dressed beds and thick curtains; the extra little room is just right for a child. Jacky is a good cook, so hop downstairs for a delicious breakfast – the best sausages and bacon or continental with home-baked ham; she’s happy to do light suppers, and makes Christmas puds to sell. There are fun events at the Norman motte-and-bailey castle; thriving Long Melford and Clare are close.

Lovely 3 night stay. Situated in the midst of beautiful county villages The Old Pottery is very comfortable and Jackie is very friendly. Our double room was spacious, lovely furniture, comfy bed and lovely shower room. Breakfast to die for - basically whatever you want. We had fresh fruit starters and full English. Lots of quality touches and good communication from first contact. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Fabulous !! Jacky is the best of hosts, her food is fantastic, her rooms luxurious, practical and beautiful. We stayed a night while attending two day riding clinic in Essex picking The Old Pottery purely on location, we found a gem. Jacky responded promptly to emails, prepared food with flare and thought to our requirements and could not have been more hospitable. The main bedroom - ensuite - lovely linens, views and comfort. There are no 'hospitality' trays in the room, however tea or coffee are provided any time you need. Can't wait for our next visit.

Lovely accommodation, warm hospitality from Jacky who is a splendidly helpful and friendly host, superb breakfasts. Good pub and restaurant in the village, so no need to venture out again in the evening. Ideally suited for places we wanted to go: Ickworth, Audley End, Flatford Mill, Gainsborough House in Sudbury. An altogether splendid visit: strongly recommended!

Jacky is a wonderfully friendly host and as the description notes above, cooks great sausages! Both the bedroom and bathroom were great and the bed very comfortable indeed. Twiglet is also a very welcoming host too! If he brings you a tennis ball you have made a friend for life! If anyone is coming to this area, I'd highly recommend staying. The village itself is very pretty too, I wish I had longer than one night!

A comfortable home in a pretty Essex village. A delicious breakfast is served in an elegant dining room. Garden flowers on the table provide a delightful extra touch. Recommended.

Fabulous find! We received a very warm welcome and were shown to beautifully appointed large, light & airy bedrooms with luxury bedding, smart TV's and wi-fi. Newly fitted marble ensuite bathrooms with soft fluffy towels and quality toiletries. All spotlessly clean. Scrumptious cooked & continental breakfast. Perfect location for a wedding at Headingham Castle with parking right outside. Jackie's attention to detail and personable manner helped make our stay a memorable one. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Jacky gave us a wonderfully warm welcome when we stayed with her while attending a family wedding nearby. She made tea, ironed shirts for the wedding and even helped us deliver some last minute items to the venue.. The rooms were inviting and very comfortable, breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble.. She helped to make a special family event stress free and I would recommend Jacky and her guest house to anyone,

Catherine, Harrow

Everything about our stay was perfect. Without being asked Jacky offered to cook supper after our long journey. We enjoyed it so much she cooked every night. Bedrooms hugely comfortable and every detail perfect. The bonus was buying her delicious Christmas puddings. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Jacky was a lesson in how to look after guests.
