The Experience

A listed hobbity stone shepherd’s cottage with a bushy cap of thatch and trim garden behind. Step in to a warm, bright living area with flagstone floors and original art. It’s a romantic sort of place with a stone fireplace, wood-burner and coffee table with books. In one corner, a modern kitchen with vintage china and useful basics in the cupboards, along with apple juice, local beer, Nespresso pods and fudge.

Steep stone stairs spiral up to the bedroom and bathroom with its claw foot bath, fluffy towels and smellies. Outside are rattan seats, a scented path over the lawn, a mini wild meadow, apples, plums, herbs to pick. Some asphodels too – symbols of romance.

Stride the endless walking paths, cycle or stroll to the Tunnel House Inn; close by are Roman Cirencester and plenty of chocolate-box Cotswold villages.

Reviews

This was the perfect place to relax after a hectic Christmas entertaining. The cottage is so comfortable and tastefully restored. It barely stopped raining while we were there, but we pulled on our wellingtons for long, muddy walks then sank gratefully into the sofas by the log burner. We particularly appreciated how keen the owners obviously were for guests to enjoy their stay. The local produce on arrival was a lovely touch - as were the treats for our very appreciative dog. There was a lot of information about nearby attractions and the history of the cottage. Thank you! We loved it all.

Juliet, Bristol

Such a beautiful, historic cottage in a conservation area. Every comfort is catered for. The owners obviously have great attention to detail. Quiet with spectacular country views and a secluded garden. A great place to relax.

We absolutely loved our stay at Asphodel Cottage. Such a beautiful little home. Stunning building with equally stunning surroundings. We will be staying again in the future!

Beau, Brighton

We stayed for a long weekend at Aspodel cottage, and had a great stay. The contact with the owners in advance of the stay was really helpful and they were very friendly able to provide great advice for getting there and for during the stay. The cottage itself is lovely and in a really nice location with a nice cottage garden overlooking the fields behind the cottage. The facilities in the cottage were great for a long weekend and would also be suitable for a longer stay, there is a DVD player available and an interesting selection of DVDs to watch if you arent outside enjoying the tranquility

Simply wonderful! We spent the whole of Christmas 2019 in this beautiful cottage with our little Westie, Molly 🐶. Gorgeously furnished, cosy, warm and delightfully fragranced. It is evident that the owners have put a huge amount of love and care into furnishing Asphodel Cottage with lots of lovely touches. Very pretty bedroom - we adored the chandelier! And sinking into the comfy velvet sofas in front of the log burner was heavenly. A lovely garden and a great local pub just a walk away across open fields. We cannot recommend Asphodel Cottage highly enough and cannot wait to return!

Melanie, Nantwich

Beautiful cottage with thatched roof, decorated with a mix of traditional and modern elements. Fully equipped, with a luxurious bathroom, functional kitchen and romantic wood-burning stove. We had excellent weather, so we were able to make good use of the grandiose beautiful and well-kept garden, with various corners and seats. This cottage is an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds, but also for enjoying and relaxing in this inspiring environment. Is it worth the money!

We absolutely loved our stay at Asphodel Cottage. From the moment we walked in it felt like Home. A beautiful cottage in a lovely location. It was easy to book and we found the keys exactly as we were informed. I would have no problem recommending this cottage or Sawdays in future.

Clare, Ascot

An absolute delight. We came for an anniversary celebration and were not disappointed - arrived to find the interior even better than the pictures, low lighting and a complimentary bottle of chilled Prosecco, the upstairs bedroom has loads of charm and is hugely romantic. The garden has super views and we enjoyed the short ramble along the footpaths to the Tunnel House Inn. We had a great time touring all the local Cotswold villages. A little bit of heaven and we will definitely return.

Introducing

Martin and Julie originally bought this as a holiday cottage for themselves. They now rent it out and you let yourselves in but there is a housekeeper on hand 9-5 if you need help with anything.
