Ted and Paddy’s barn is a surprise. Tucked off the High Street, it has four acres of garden with space for pigs, chickens, veg, sunny seats, trees – and for collie Bill to chase squirrels. The long hall has a quirky line of antique high chairs, and there’s a soaring living space beyond with a big wood-burner and comfy sofas; the white theme throughout contrasts with honey-coloured wood and odd splashes of colour. Bedrooms – one up spiral stairs on the sitting room mezzanine – have lovely linen and piles of pillows. Paddy is a good cook – her generous breakfasts often include their own sausages. Walk from the door into the Forest of Dean.
