The Experience

Hikers, birdwatchers and peace-seekers will love this, a terraced Cotswold stone cottage on the edge of Blockley, surrounded by woodland and fields: bring your walking boots and tramp the trails. The old silk workers’ house has had a crisp and contemporary renovation. Oak beams, exposed stone walls and limestone-flagged floors will please you, while the bedrooms are peaceful and cosy. You can watch village cricket from the double, and lap up views of the Northwick Park Estate from the twin. A tea tray with a delicious cake and flowers welcome you on arrival in a smart, new, Shaker-style kitchen. Then it’s down a steep staircase – with a stair gate at the top – to the living room, where a large ceiling-to-floor window bathes the space in light and gives glorious views out to the hills. French windows open to a patio in summer, a pleasant spot in which to sit and relax over morning coffee, or fire up the barbecue. Bring the binoculars: you might just spot a skylark! You are within easy reach of Cotswold towns and villages and National Trust houses: a perfect position.

I loved the quality of light and outlook in this up and down cottage. And the feeling that in spite of sharing a run of houses, once inside the cottage felt peaceful and private. This is a charming village full of history and a strong sense of community. The cafe was full, doing a roaring trade, with locals and Fr Brown devotees enjoying morning coffee and serious looking chocolate cake.

We stayed at Skylark Cottage for one week.Very charming!! It was immaculately clean. The beds were comfortable, and everything you would need was available. Washer and dryer worked beautifully. It was wonderful watching the deer out our back windows. The garden was very nice. Blockley is one of our favorite villages. You can easily walk into the village from the cottage. Parking was never a problem. The owner was very accommodating, and pleasant to deal with. Easy booking process. Lovely place to stay, and would highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay at the Skylark Cottage from May 21 to May 24. It is in the middle of a row of similar units, so you are sharing the parking with other tenants. The unit is well equipped with new appliances. Very comfortable. The town of Blockley is a nice place to tour and learn some of the local history. I would stay there again. We had a rental car and drove to other places during the day. Nice vacation and very peaceful.

A warm welcome from Ruth in the form of tea tray with chocolate cake and beautiful fresh flowers.Gorgeous cottage with all you could need for a weekend or longer. Cosy sitting room with great views over the cou7ntryside. Comfortable beds to curl up in after a busy day in the fresh air. Perfect place to stay to explore the North Cotswolds. we shall be back to Skylark Cottage - no doubt about that!

Loved Skylark Cottage which is located in the charming village of Blockley. We had a wonderful time. The garden is a real sun trap and we even managed to sit outside in March. Beautiful views from the windows and everything you would need!

This is a very comfortable, attractive and - in winter - warm cottage which is particularly well equipped. The owners were very pleasant and obliging in our email exchanges. The cottage was spotless when we arrived. The stairs are quite steep, which was not a problem for us. Views from the rear are splendid and the cottage location, on the edge of a very interesting Cotswolds village, means that you can walk from the door into the countryside and yet also enjoy of a walk to the village cafe and shop only 0.4 miles away.

My husband and I had the pleasure of living our Cotswolds fantasy life for a week at charming Skylark Cottage earlier this month (Aug, 2014). The pictures on the web site are what you see when you walk in the door--the cottage is tall and narrow with steep stairs which we became accustomed to pretty quickly. It is light filled and beautifully decorated with old pine doors and exposed stone. The bed is extremely comfortable. The views out the east facing back windows are glorious--wheat fields and hills and woods. Blockley is a beautiful village. Ruth Lucas, the owner, is very kind and helpful.

  • National Trust Gardens: Hidcote and Snowshill are a 20 minute drive or stop off at Daylesford to sample treats from their amazing deli.
  • Batsford Aboretum and Falconery Centre is 10 minutes away. Both are close to Moreton-in-Marsh with its market, antique shops and railway station.
  • Stratford-Upon-Avon is 30 minutes away. Explore the town, take in a Shakespeare play, see historic buildings, feed swans and visit tea rooms and shops.
