Walkers will heave a sigh of relief – depending on the weather you’ll arrive to a roaring fire and panelled drawing room or a sun-filled patio with stretching lawns. There are friendly dogs, tea and a vast choice of Jane’s cake either way! Nip up the well-whipped stairs to unconventional bedrooms: romantic four-poster, vast suite, pretty single; get lost in a French emperor bed and watch TV on the big screen. Bathrooms have power showers, views and painted floorboards. Feast on Graham’s home-reared sausages and bacon overlooking the Cotswold Hills and stride out to country houses, Westonbirt Arboretum or the famous Old Spot pub.

Jane and Graham made us welcome and looked after us so well at Stinchcombe. A remarkable house in a remarkable location - on top of the world and with views across the River Severn. We enjoyed our stay so much and are looking forward to a return visit. An added bonus was the great food at The New Inn at Waterley Bottom, just a few minutes by car along quiet lanes. A perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Jane & Graham Burrell

  • Berkeley Castle is a must It is traditionally believed to be the scene of the murder of King Edward II in 1327.
  • Woodchester Mansion, an unfinshed Victorian Gothic style mansion Fascinating to wonder around. Reputed to be haunted........
  • Slimbridge Wetland Center for all bird lovers.
  • Newark Park. A National Trust Tudor hunting lodge.
  • Highgrove. The home of Prince Charles. The gardens are open to the public, by appointment only!
  • The Old Spot ale house in DursleyWins CAMRA wards regularly. Would be almost rude not to try their ales.
