You enter through the utility room – perfect for muddy walking boots and outdoor gear. A smart kitchen diner has all the gear for cooking and making excellent coffees plus a magnanimous welcome hamper with everything you need for your first breakfast: local bacon and eggs, honey from bees who live down the road, bread from the bakery in Stow and lovely crunchy granola with local milk.
You’re surrounded by much comfort – nothing has been done on the cheap here, so you’ll sleep on thick mattresses between fine linen, slap gorgeous lotions and potions on in sparkling bathrooms, unwind on fat sofas with squashy cushions in front of a roaring wood-burner on chilly days. If you’re feeling especially delicate and want to be looked after there’s a full concierge service for the asking – shopping, cooking, booking tables and securing tickets.
A short walk down a footpath will take you to brilliant Bibury and its iconic, much photographed row of cottages and the Swan hotel for afternoon teas and good suppers. The Organic Farm Shop is just 10 minutes away, and you’ll find a big gas-fired barbecue in the pretty garden and an outdoor table for long lazy suppers. There’s not too much light pollution here so on clear nights you should see plenty of stars.
