The Experience

You enter through the utility room – perfect for muddy walking boots and outdoor gear. A smart kitchen diner has all the gear for cooking and making excellent coffees plus a magnanimous welcome hamper with everything you need for your first breakfast: local bacon and eggs, honey from bees who live down the road, bread from the bakery in Stow and lovely crunchy granola with local milk.

You’re surrounded by much comfort – nothing has been done on the cheap here, so you’ll sleep on thick mattresses between fine linen, slap gorgeous lotions and potions on in sparkling bathrooms, unwind on fat sofas with squashy cushions in front of a roaring wood-burner on chilly days. If you’re feeling especially delicate and want to be looked after there’s a full concierge service for the asking – shopping, cooking, booking tables and securing tickets.

A short walk down a footpath will take you to brilliant Bibury and its iconic, much photographed row of cottages and the Swan hotel for afternoon teas and good suppers. The Organic Farm Shop is just 10 minutes away, and you’ll find a big gas-fired barbecue in the pretty garden and an outdoor table for long lazy suppers. There’s not too much light pollution here so on clear nights you should see plenty of stars.

Reviews

The barns are a lovely place to stay. Nothing has been missed in the careful, respectful design that combines luxury with practicality to create a comfortable, relaxing environment. Every detail has been considered: from the inclusion of dressing gowns to a really good working kitchen and plenty of crockery and glasses for a generous get-together. After a full day of walking (we set out from the door) we recouped with a big family meal followed by games, drinks and catching up in front of the fire. The Bibury team are welcoming and helpful. Simply wonderful.

Caroline, London

Enjoyed a wonderful stay in The Stables. Extremely comfortable and well equipped. A ten out of ten from us and now we want to stay in all of the barns. Fabulous and sensitively renovated complex of buildings.

Rosemary, Modbury, Near Plymouth

You can't beat the barns at Bibury for style, comfort and art, but for pure dramatic finesse, The Stables is the outright winner. I would have loved a soak in the freestanding bath, but there were spectators, and the colours on the walls are bolder than I, so this time, I stayed dry.

Location

The neighbourhood

Bibury is so pretty you'll find tourists getting buses to gawk at the chocolate box Englishness of it all. Other honey stone villages await - Burford is a 10-minute drive. Wedding venues Cripps Barn and Stone Barn are both a five-minute drive, Cirencester 15 minutes for wonderful shops. For days out with children the Cotswold Wildlife Park is 10 minutes and Cotswold Water Parks (swimming, canoeing, water skiing, paddle boarding and sailing) 15. Hire a bike for miles of cycle paths or join the Cotswold Way for hearty walks.

Introducing

George & Polly Phillips

George and Polly have created a set of super-smart renovated barns on part of George's family farm, all styled by uber Cotswolds interior designer Pippa Paton. Each barn has its own character but all have big pieces of art, impressive lighting and much comfort. The aim here is to provide an extremely comfortable base for families and groups of friends.
