The
Experience

Complete privacy in a B&B is rare. Here you have it, just a 12-minute walk from town, cathedral and water meadows. Relax in your own half of a Victorian townhouse immaculately furnished and decorated, and with a garden to match – all roses and lilac in the spring. Breakfasts are sumptuous, there’s a log fire in the guests’ sitting room and fresh flowers abound. An ‘honesty box’ means you may help yourselves to drinks. Bedrooms are small and elegant, with antique mirrors, furniture and bedspreads; bathrooms are warm and spotless. Guy and Fizzy have charmed Special Places guests for many years.

Reviews

We booked Brymer House for four nights to visit Winchester with my mother to celebrate her 90th birthday. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the beds very comfortable. Kettles were available in the rooms; tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were replenished daily. We particularly appreciated having our own cosy sitting room to relax in after a busy day sightseeing. The breakfasts were amazing; my mother relished the full English whilst we enjoyed the fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt. Fizzy & Guy were the perfect hosts, and it is thanks them that my mother’s birthday treat was such a success.

Local points of interest from Guy & Fizzy Warren

  • Brymer House is a minute’s walk to the verdant water meadows of the River Itchen and the Hospital of St. Cross with its Medieval Almshouse, Brethren’s Hall, Lodgings and beautiful walled gardens.
  • Make your way through the meadows with grazing cattle up St. Catherine’s Hill for the finest view over the whole city.
  • Only a 12-minute walk to the city centre, either beside the River through Winchester College grounds or the Close of our mighty Cathedral, you will find considerable interest - packed with historic buildings, monuments and museums.
  • The city centre is compact with its shops, many restaurants, cosy cafes and old pubs all within a short walk. There is a colourful weekly market and the largest Christmas Market in the country.
  • Our Cathedral has the longest Medieval Nave in Europe and burial place of Jane Austen. There is also the Great Hall, home to the legendry Round Table, the Bishop’s Palaces, plus Winchester College and Military Museums.
  • Nearby, charming small towns and villages - Alresford with its steam railway, Stockbridge on the famous River Test, Chawton with Jane Austen’s house, Marwell Zoo, Mottisfont and Romsey Abbeys and Whitchurch Silk Mill.
