Lavender beds, wild flowers, yoga, treatments… Heaps to dip into, and it’s a great place to share with family and friends: thatched Cottage and a separate Lodge. A lit wood-burner in the Cottage hall welcomes you, as well as bubbly, nibbles and soft drinks. It’s a relaxed, lived-in house with three sets of stairs leading to simply done bedrooms (a quirky hatch joins two), family bathrooms (one tiny), places for children to play hide-and-seek. The two sitting rooms are stuffed with beams; art, family photos, books, colourful rugs, more fires make you feel at home. The dining sun room has a huge table – book a chef or there’s a fully kitted Aga kitchen. The Lodge has its own drive and is tucked away behind hedging: snug bolthole for two (plus two nimble children up on the mezzanine), with an airy sitting room warmed by a modern wood-burner, comfy bedroom looking over the lavender, swish shower. There’s a large garden, a yurt in the field (becomes a café with set events in the summer) and a pool with the Lodge (this can be used by the Cottage if you let both houses). Head off for river walks from the door; nearby Winchester is a treat.
