In the courtyard of the family’s handsome villa is the Coach House – private, secluded and romantic. Enter the sitting room, airy, lofty and light, with a sweep of oak floor warm underfoot, a wood-burning stove, and an upright leather sofa facing shelves and TV. Barn-like double doors open to the dining room: wooden table and benches, a piano to play, small loft doors high above (and no hay to be seen!). From this room a steep ladder leads to a carpeted ‘bed deck’ (with safety rail) – best for children. The main bedroom, up the stairs, is cool, calm and spacious, with a cosy pitched ceiling, a small rug on a carpeted floor and fresh covers on a queen-size bed. In the bathroom find a rainfall shower over the bath and a washing machine and dryer tucked away. You’re on the edge of a residential village (no shops but good places to eat), you have a wonderful farm shop a 15-minute stroll away and a great little kitchen in which to rustle up meals. The beautiful Basingstoke Canal is just down the road, as is King John’s Odiham Castle. There’s a tiny garden, all is leafy and lovely – who’d guess you were an hour from London?

The Coach House is the perfect retreat, it is absolutely beautiful. I was particularly inspired by the thoughtful details. Maria has thought of everything from welcome essentials, interiors and linen, to games and books. Would highly recommend!

The Coach House is a lovely warm welcoming place to stay - it is actually bigger than it appears in the pictures and the description (although both are entirely accurate). We were a family group gathered to celebrate a birthday and there was plenty of room for us to eat and relax. Four of us stayed in the house and we were six for dinner. The kitchen was fully stocked with an abundance of lovely crockery and cutlery and a proper sized dishwasher made light work of the tidying up. Maria has provided a wealth of information about local places to eat as well as local places of interest. Thank you

My girlfriend and I spent a wonderfully relaxing long weekend in the coach house. Getting here from London is really easy by train. We arrived to a lovely warm and atmospheric place - very homely. The photos don't do the interior justice, each room is gorgeously decorated, it feels contemporary whilst embracing its old coach house days. One of our days was rainy so we happily got some food in to cook, got the wood burner up and running and bedded in for the day-recommended! Maria was very helpful and quick to respond. Staying here was a joy, we will most definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay at the Coach House, beautiful old building, really comfortable stay and everything we needed for our 16 month old. Would recommend the walk along the canal. We had a great time!

Carly, Southampton

The Coach House was immaculate in every way. We found it was also very spacious, the owners have paid every attention to detail to make sure your stay is comfortable. The area has many walks nearby. There is an excellent farm shop and deli for local produce, just 3 minutes drive away, with an onsite cafe. The Coach House was spotless and exceeded our expectations.

Sue, Braintree essex

Cosy, quirky and unique with nice little touches including toiletries, breakfast hamper, magazines and Netflix.

Laura, Southampton

The Coach house is just a perfect as it looks in the photos. We were provided with all the information we could have needed and the fridge was generously stocked with breakfast essentials including eggs and bacon. We didn't know the area at all, but soon found that this is a lovely location for walking or cycling with a great choice of pubs and restaurants within 15 minutes walk. It is also only a 25 minute easy car journey into Winchester. Don't miss the very pleasant adjoining village of Odiham; a circular walk along the canal and through Greywell, pausing to take in the ancient church.

Steve, London

The Coachhouse is private, spacious, peaceful, so tastefully done, as well as being perfectly located for Londoners - I can definitely imagine being back. Thanks Maria.

Tim, London

A fantastic cottage, really nicely done and very spacious. We stayed as a couple with a 6 month old baby and it was perfect. There are really nice walks along the canal and the town of Odiham has a great pub (can walk but a very easy 3 min drive).

Hi Maria. Finally out of the rush and on honeymoon. Just wanted to thank you and Matt for your hospitality. The cottage was perfect for our wedding weekend. x

Michael, London

“Maria's house is just my dream house. With everything I need and I really like staying here. So clean and comfy !!!! And Maria is very friendly and send me some food when we run out of food! Thank you so much and will stay here again for sure in the future ”

Chloe, Hong kong

We just wanted to thank you. We had a really lovely time at the house it's a cosy little place with a touch of luxury, we really didn't want to leave. How comfortable is that bed!! Thank you for making our stay an enjoyable one with everything we needed at the house and more. The canal walk nearby was really nice - a great start to the day! Thank you and we hope to return

Our stay at The Coach House was perfect. It’s a gorgeously decorated cottage with the most welcoming of hosts who had graciously stocked the kitchen with enough provisions to see us through until the next day. The wood burning fire is a real attraction on cold winter evenings so much so that I still miss it now. To be honest, I’m almost loath to write this review as to keep it a hidden gem! A cannot recommend this cottage enough. Thanks Maria for a wonderful stay.

“We had a great couple of days in this delightful barn. It is comfortable, stylish and very well appointed (lovely wood burner and extremely comfortable bed!) Perfect for our retreat from the city. Maria was on hand when we arrived and very helpful, and we enjoyed eating out at The Hoddington Arms and brunch at Newlyns. Fantastic spot, highly recommended!”

Reuben, London

Maria's place is an absolute dream and a perfect country escape. It is decorated and designed to perfection and has that feeling of 'home' as soon as you walk in. Maria completely went out of her way to accommodate us, left us food, helped us with local suggestions and even dropped around some wellies for us to wear! I would recommend it to anyone (and already have), especially as a quiet weekend away from London or any big city... if only we could have stayed longer. 6 out of 5 stars!!

Zoe, London

We are almost leaving and we would like to thank you so much for the great time in The Coach House and the precious advices very accurate and useful. We have been to Windsor to see the castle, Winchester for the Cathedral, Oxford to see the famous colleges, London for Buckingham Palace. We have even visited Highclere Castle home of Downton Abbey! Thank you a great stay in a great region.

Very pleasant country bolthole, only a stone's throw from London. We were made to feel very much at home, especially with the addition of a few welcome breakfast bites (eggs, bacon, bread etc). The sitting room is exceptionally snug and the bed, one of the most comfortable that we've ever slept in. An all around THUMBS UP!

From the moment we opened the front door we knew we had found a little gem. The Coach House has been beautifully converted with polished wood floors and exposed beams, fresh flowers greeted us on the table and a pile of magazines to flick through while the kettle boiled. The kitchen was lovely and sunny and Maria had popped all sorts of goodies in the fridge and cupboard, everything we would need for our first night. The bedroom was cosy with pretty linen on the comfy bed and we made use of the washing machine and dryer hidden away in the bathroom. A great place to stay.

There isn't enough room here to write all the positive things that go along with this listing, let alone the wonderful host(s). Maria will offer you the warmest welcome and is a wonderful host. She has definitely lived a colourful and adventureous life, has done plenty of International travelling herself and so always has a great story to tell. I highly recommend Maria as a fabulous host to everyone.

Staying at the Coach House in Odiham was a joy. Every thought had been given in advance to meeting our needs - and we had such a relaxing and pleasant time. The unit itself is extremely comfortable and stylishly laid out. Can't wait until we have the opportunity for a return visit.
