The Experience

This is a romantic escape for couples or a getaway for families who love the countryside: foraging, nature trails for children, dreamy sunsets from a hammock chair in the woods, paddling in the stream, cooking outdoors, endless walks through beautiful landscapes – it’s all easy thanks to next-door, creative owners Polly and Matt (who created the beds from recycled finds and bakes a great loaf). Inside your converted barn you’ll find wooden floors with a jumble of rugs and mats, a huge wood-burner with stacks of logs, two squishy sofas, reclaimed lamps, blossom in jars and plenty of books and games. All is colourful too (bright greens and blues, warm reds) and the feel is light and spacious, not cramped. The grown up bedroom has an enormous bed with a Matt-inspired scaffolding headboard and an extra day bed in antique wood; adventurous types will be thrilled with the iron steps and canvas door into the tent room under the eaves. You can cook up a storm in a good space with a big red dresser, fun Nkuku screwtop stools and a pretty view to the garden. You’re near Longtown for fabulous organic food – stock up and stay put.

What a wonderful place to stay! The perfect base for exploring and relaxing. Polly and Matt were wonderful hosts and provided a wealth of knowledge about the local area. Will definitely return!

Jo, Sevenoaks

We had a beautiful stay at the Barn. Facing the Black Mountains, surrounded by streams, sheep, ducks and hens, the Barn is a very cosy retreat for a family of 4. A great week for walking and enjoying nature as a family.

Harold, London

We had an amazing stay at Warmth & Wonder. As parents of two young children we could not have had a more cosy and fun family holiday - extremely well set up for kids. The location is really stunning and our hosts were warm and welcoming. Could not recommend the barn enough.

Lliam, Brighton & Hove

Our 2nd visit: the first with Forest Church (informal spiritual retreat) 2 months ago; the second with my family sons, daughters, partners & grandchildren. Both visits were delightful, though being in such an idyllic place with those that I love most was wonderful. My son described it as one of the most beautiful places he had been to; I agree. Matt & Polly,, both very warm & genuine people, have thought of every detail to make the stay in the barn, a great conversion, very comfortable & easy. The information “bible” is a classic. I loved being there & will return again & again.

David, Oxford

Just returned from a lovely weekend, away from it all, at The Barn at Warmth & Wonder. This was a random choice, booked merely as a midway meeting point with family, for some 'catch up and chill time' and did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the weather was not summer at its best but the comfort in The Barn made up for that. There are plenty of games and DVDs, if required, to while away the time. There are also plenty of walks in the surrounding area and 48 acres on site to explore. Would love to return for a week at some point to fully explore the area, in and around, properly.

Louise, Alton

This is a magical place. Well kitted out, but simple and easy to use. All the information we needed was there - including great information about all the wonderful walks around. This was a cosy haven for a January weekend. Would thoroughly recommend

Willo, Lewes

Wonderful stay, so relaxing, we are already planning to return. Great base for amazing black mountain walks but always so lovely returning to the comfort of the barn and it’s lovely setting. We loved walking up through the woods via the rope swing to fabulous mountain views, drinking morning coffee outside with Hatterrall Ridge in front of us and always having such a cosy base to return to. The rustic style is perfect and the homemade sourdough on arrival delicious. Thank you!

I was so looking forward to our weekend break and it did not disappoint. Matt and Polly have worked hard to create a lovely haven in a beautiful setting, and then been kind enough to share it with others! Though there's plenty to occupy in the locality, we were just delighted to take walks on the farm, help feed the pigs, watch the DVDs, play games and cook some absolutely delicious cookies which they left ingredients for. When we needed things we'd forgotten to bring, Matt and Polly were there to help, but we also had space to unwind. Thank you! Family of five

Literally Warm and Wonderful - an extremely well-appointed, well-equipped, spacious conversion with clear instructions on how everything works. Beautiful grounds, fantastic views and friendly homely touches on our arrival. The photos in the gallery say it all.

Paul, London

Amazing location with stunning views; fantastic place for a family with children - pigs, chicken, sheep and plenty of space to explore; beautiful well equipped light and airy barn with comfy beds. We would definitely recommend this place.

Jane, Bristol

We had such a great week and it was difficult to leave. Warmth and wonder is a very special place - perfect with kids for rambling through the woods/stream and very peaceful. Also Matt and Polly were very helpful in terms of flexibility with arrival/departure time.

Sam, London

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Warmth and Wonder barn. It was a beautiful retreat, so peaceful with stunning views, and we enjoyed rambling about the grounds and woods. The barn is a great space, very homely and comfortable, and we were made to feel so welcome by the owners and their children. My toddler adored the place, as did we, and we hope to return soon. Double thumbs up!
