In one of England’s loveliest, least populated counties, this rambling cluster of ancient buildings down a narrow no-through lane is a friendly, atmospheric place – once part of Hampton Court Castle Estate. The ducks and dogs, the peaceful country walks and bike rides, the flagged hallway, massive beams and panelled sitting room are all memorable.
So too is Sally’s enthusiastic welcome and the excellent food from her kitchen. Mostly locally-sourced, home grown and homemade country breakfasts and evening meals (with set menus, discussed in advance) go particularly well with local wine, cider, gin and vodka.
You can play tennis, table tennis, and the Bechstein Grand piano; nip off for a round of golf, or to Leominster or Ludlow for antiques and markets. And do take time to relax, settle down with a book on the lawn or by the grand fireplace.
