The Experience

A delightful, unexpected hideaway bang opposite the site of St Augustine’s Abbey and a five-minute walk to the Cathedral. You pass through Ursula and Christopher’s elegant Georgian house to emerge in a pretty courtyard, with fig tree and rambling rose, to find your self-contained cottage. Downstairs is a cosy sitting room with pale walls, tiled floors and plenty of books, and a clever, compact wet room with mosaic tiles. Then up steep stairs to a swish bedroom with crisp cotton sheets on a handmade bed and views of the ancient wisteria. You breakfast in the main house or in the courtyard on sunny days. Perfect.

Reviews

Smashing and cosy accommodation with a super comfy bed. Ursula’s breakfasts are amazing- lots of variety and kept us going all day(except for the odd cheeky coffee and cake out in Canterbury!). City centre only 5 minutes walk away from Longport. Lots to see and do there. Ursula also accommodated our bikes in her garage on request, so we cycled to Whitstable along the Crab and Winkle way on one day. Ursula also gave great advice re eating out and we never had a bad meal!

We stayed at 7 Longport for our minimoon in Canterbury and it was absolutely perfect! The cottage is lovely and managed to stay really cool even though the weather was sweltering outside which was a welcome relief after a day out. The cottage itself is cosy, comfortable and really beautifully decorated. The terrace outside was fab also and we made great use of this. The cottage is just a 2 minute walk to the city centre but managed to still feel like a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle. The breakfast each day was fabulous and a real treat, Ursula was a great host! We’ll be back!

What a delightful cottage slap bang in the middle of the Old Town of Canterbury. The king size bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in.To wake up in the morning to the sound of birdsong was lovely! Ursula is a great host, very knowledgeable and friendly, her breakfasts are home made and plentiful.Would reccomend the autumn fruit salad and the mozzarella and figs, accompanied by fresh pastries, honey and jam.A full English breakfast is also on the menu. The freshly squeezed orange juice also went down a treat.Thankyou Ursula for a wonderful stay in your beautiful 15th century cottage

My husband and I stayed at 7 Longport for one night for his birthday. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous, cute, cosy and beautifully decorated. The courtyard it's in is so pretty too. We had a super nights sleep in the exceptionally comfy bed, and the warm and welcoming Ursula cooked a yummy breakfast in the morning. She also let us check in early, which was really kind of her. All in all a great stay.

We found Ursula's garden cottage to be quiet, quaint, exceptionally clean and conveniently close to what we came to Canterbury to see. Ursula was a kind and thoughtful host. The breakfast was tasty and filling. We’re sending our friends and family to 7 Longport for their overnight stay in Canterbury.

Lovely stay at the cottage! Ursula was a wonderful host and we enjoyed her delicious cooked breakfast on Saturday and pancakes on Sunday. The cottage was cosy and the bed was super comfortable! Everything you could need has been thought of. Highly recommended!

Rap smartly on the highly polished brass lion knocker and Ursula is revealed with surely the warmest smile in Canterbury. Now make your way past the antique rocking horse to the back door. Cross the charming courtyard to your cottage for the night, or longer if you were wise enough and have time to investigate the city fully. You could throw a cricket ball at the cathedral such is your well chosen spot. Your cottage has everything and then some. You may not want to get out of the embracing bed but I urge you to do so and pop over to Ursula’s kitchen for a breakfast to equal to any.

7 Longport is a hidden delight, from the quirky and comfortable cottage to the lovely breakfasts prepared by Ursula. Its very convenient for exploring Canterbury and the surrounding area. Ursula is a most welcoming and knowledgeable host. Just delightful.

Beautifully decorated 15th century cottage in the heart of Canterbury. The cottage sits within a walled garden, it was lovely waking to the sound of bird song. Ursula is a great host. Breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend the home made poached apple with blackberries!

7 Longport is well located for walking into Canterbury city. It was brilliant to be able to park our car a two minute walk away for just £6 for 24hrs. We liked the privacy of having our own little cottage, with a cute little sitting area on the ground floor and a spacious, light and comfortable bedroom on the top floor. Ursula was a warm and welcoming hostess, full of local knowledge and served up a great breakfast in the morning. What's not to like?!

Felicity, London

I am a frequent visitor to 7 Longport. The cottage is a hidden gem; tucked away across the courtyard - so peaceful and yet only a short walk from the City centre. I'd like to say that it is home from home but the bed is much more comfortable and the breakfasts are definitely more delicious! Ursula is the consummate hostess and no attention to detail is spared. I consider myself fortunate to have found a bolt hole in Canterbury and I look forward to returning.

A much-needed two-day break was made very special and relaxing thanks to Ursula's personal care and attention to detail. The quirky yet comfortable cottage in the garden feels like a hidden secret but comes with everything you might need for modern comfort - comfy bed with great sheets, thick towels, wood burner much appreciated on a cold February evening, books and mags to read. Breakfast was locally sourced & beautifully prepared and cooked. We walked out into the centre of Canterbury and came back to our little haven when we needed to recharge. Don't miss lunch at the Good's Shed nearby

We were looking for somewhere to stay whilst attending a wedding locally and this really hit the spot. A great cottage at the end of the Garden, beautifully presented with a fantastic bed. The best nights sleep in ages. A short walk into the Cathedral was a bonus. Ursula was one of the best hosts we have encountered - welcoming, full of local knowledge on where to eat and where to go and served up an amazing breakfast on the two days we were there. Great to be able to sit outside in the quiet courtyard. We will return and certainly recommend to others.

We revelled in this appealing, cosy hideaway in the historic heart of Canterbury, near St Augustine's Abbey. Rooms bijou but private, quirky and tasteful. Very friendly welcome from Ursula and delicious breakfast in the main 18thC house. Walkable to all the sights and more eating places than you can shake a stick at, yet peacefully tucked away. Perfect couple weekend away!

Carmel

We had a wonderful stay at 7 Longport and were made to feel very welcome by our friendly hosts. The cottage was very charming; beautifully decorated and just perfect for us two and our three month old. Ursula was happy to provide a baby bouncer and other baby-related things which made our stay that extra bit comfortable. And her breakfasts were just delicious. We loved the variety - every morning is different in her kitchen! And her attention to detail was brilliant. Don't hesitate to book a stay here in the centre of Canterbury!

Rebecca

The most wonderful place you could stay in Canterbury. The cottage is a beautiful, peaceful haven from the bustle of modern life. Ursula and Christopher were so welcoming and helpful. Emerging from the cottage into the sun-dappled courtyard under the magnolia tree, with the wisteria in bloom, before devouring a superb full-English breakfast, was a highlight of our trip.

Michael

7 Longport is a great setting, so handy for Canterbury city. We got a warm welcome before discovering the quaint cosy cottage with all comforts. Ursula advised on dining places in the town. After a most peaceful night in the secluded garden we enjoyed a delicious breakfast. The main house was such a happy family place and reflected the family's love of cooking. It is a treasure of a place to stay.
