The Experience

A gem of a restoration in a blooming garden. Graham (film maker) and Yolanda’s home is one of the earliest Dutch-influenced buildings in east Kent, and you step inside to wonderful features at every turn: a striking brick hall floor, a Jacobean oak staircase, Graham’s artwork, oriental musical instruments, an elegant library. Inviting bedrooms, claw foot baths, and cushiony sofas in the sitting room add to the comfortable vibe. Breakfast includes a neighbour’s award-winning apple juice, best-sourced sausages, homemade jams, eggs from the hens. Graham and Yolanda exude cheerfulness and interest – it’s a treat to stay with them.

Lovely house in quiet location near Sandwich where our hosts provided all for our two day stay. Welcomed by tea in the garden room which became an absorbing conversation about shared interests. Two days of local exploration passed quickly, while the Government found itself on the wrong side of Parliamentary law.

Robert, Dawlish

We did not want to leave. Such superb people. The house is a treasure which they generously share with visitors. Very helpful about day trips. The breakfast is locally sourced. Our days there are highlight of our trip.

We had simply the best of times this weekend. Thank you both so very much for your wonderful hospitality - great chats, lovely company and good food . What more could a person want! The gardens were fabulous – herbaceous borders in full bloom. A great recommendation.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for a weekend in the country. Graham and Yolanda were wonderful hosts, generous with their time and happy to talk about their beautiful home. The manor itself is picture perfect, lovingly restored and full of personal touches. We were well fed with delicious local food and home made treats, and could happily of stayed for much longer. Thank you for having us!

We couldn't have asked for a more delightful place to stay for a weekend away. Graham and Yolanda were perfect hosts; very welcoming and generous with their time and happy to chat about their beautiful house and its history. The manor itself is picture perfect and lovingly restored, with beautiful fittings and fabulous rooms. We were served food of the highest quality and feasted on local eggs and bacon and delicious homemade bread and jams. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone seeking a weekend of luxury in the countryside. Thank you for having us!

We made a huge mistake and forgot to sign the visitors' book before we left after 5 most comfortable nights and 5 very interesting days. Unfortunately, we didn't meet Yolanda, who was out of the country, but Graham was a fantastic host, who spoilt us where possible. Can't fault this B&B which is really very special in every respect. Thank you. AnnandArmin.

Fantastic - one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed in. Graham and Yolanda are wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are spacious and comfortable - definitely to be recommended.

Jackie, Hailsham

The best B & B I have ever stay in. Better than a Hotel.

Very enjoyable few days at Gt Selson, perfect base for exploring the area where our ancestors once lived. Lovely day out in Canterbury too. Our hosts were very kind and attentive and the accommodation delightful. The house has been restored with great sympathy for its history and location. Very comfortable.

Mark, Redhill

Beautifully renovated atmospheric house in an idyllic spot with wonderful welcoming hosts. Great base for visiting Turner gallery in Margate, and then on to all the other lovely east Kent Coastal spots. Great tips on local pub restaurants to have delicious food, and fascinating places to visit. Thank you Graham and Yolanda.

Aideen, London

We had a wonderful stay at the Great Selson Manor. The house was beautifully renovated, steeped in history and located in the middle of lush green countryside with easy access to all the main sites. Graham and Yolanda were very welcoming and accommodating. They shared with us their top tips of what to do in the area from coastal walks to delicious pubs in Sandwich which made for a great trip. Thank you again.

Paloma, London

Such a beautiful house (and garden) with wonderful rooms, huge and comfy, and the roll-top bath was bliss. Graham and Yolande are the best hosts, breakfasts are delicious, nothing was too much trouble. Sitting in the sunny library after breakfast was a very special treat, too. Heaven!

Sarah, Bath

Great Selson manor is everything that a traveller could hope for; welcoming hosts, delicious food and beautiful lodgings. Graham & Yolanda have a done a great job…plus...where else can you stay & get to hold a real Emmy!

Mike, London

If you get the chance to stay at Selson Manor you will absolutely love it. My husband and I had the most wonderful time here. It was an experience that left us enthused and energised. Hosts Graham and Yolanda are great and exude creativity, charisma and charm. Graham cooked a fabulous breakfast each morning and is always happy to recommend places to visit, none of which ever failed to be of interest. There is plenty to do in the area and we will most certainly be going back to enjoy the things we didn't manage to do in the four days we were there. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay!

Rebecca, Isleworth

A beautiful house with very spacious comfortable bedrooms and a lovely bathroom. Graham and Yolanda gave us a very warm welcome, homemade scones with tea on arrival and a delicious breakfast. The garden is lovely and the area very peaceful and quiet. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay and very friendly hosts. We hope to return as soon as possible.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Graham Johnston

  • Great Selson is situated on a tiny country Lane - we have hares and barn owls, bats and badgers - yet at the same time it is very well situated for the visitor to take full advantage of East Kent's myriad attractions , from beaches to cathedrals.
  • The medieval Cinque Port town of Sandwich is just 3 miles away. Stroll its lanes lined with ancient half timbered houses or sample one of the old town taverns. Keep a look out for the French weekend in June or the annual Folk and Ale festival in July
  • You are just a few miles away from Deal too with its delightful Georgian conservation area, pier and seafront and many antique and bric a brac shops, Deal has an excellent reputation for food too with some delightful restaurants hidden in the town alleys
  • Then there is Canterbury to explore with is world famous cathedral and medieval abbeys. Go punting on the river or wandering around Greyfriars gardens - or head north to Whitstable to feast on its famous oysters and sample the vibrant local arts scene
  • Just ten miles away is Thanet with the Turner gallery of contemporary arts, a lively retro furniture market, 50s nostalgia at Dreamland and one of Britains great beaches - Viking Bay at Broadstairs .. Visit Pugin's house in Ramsgate or the busy marina
  • Great Selson is surrounded by great walking country. Walk through the fields to Chillenden Mill or the famous Griffin's Head Inn, see Marsh Harriers at Stodmarsh Nature reserve, or simply relax on the lovely private beach at Sandwich Bay (cars £5)....
