Great for a family seaside break, visiting Kent and beautiful sea views. Bring your pals, visit Whitstable, relax in the courtyard garden

No ordinary seaside self-catering, this Georgian terraced house is a delight. Between the front and Herne Bay high street with its shops and restaurants – and opposite the oldest pub in town – it has bags of quirky charm. Perfect for a group of family or friends, its two light, cosy sitting rooms are filled with funky rugs, bright throws, interesting furniture and an eclectic mix of art, books and musical instruments. The homey, country-style kitchen, with its big range and colourful crockery, has everything a cook might need, and all can squeeze round the dining table. Up two flights of stairs are your roomy bedrooms, each with their own character and a comfy bed - three have sea views, two overlook the garden. The huge shared bathrooms are spotless, with a showstopper clawfoot bath in one and walk-in shower in the other. Friendly owners Frances and Torin, who run writing courses and brew beer, stay nearby when letting out their much-loved home, and leave you a hamper stuffed with essentials. Visit Whitstable and Broadstairs, amble around Reculver Castle, return to lounge in the peaceful courtyard garden. Blissful.

Frances Brown:

  • Grosvenor House is a beautiful Grade II listed, double-fronted Georgian property moments from the seafront. It is beautifully decorated and a spacious retreat for a perfect getaway with the beach and town centre right on your doorstep.
  • Herne Bay is a lovely town on the South East coast of England. From our front door you are seconds away from the beach and a minute from the high street and shops. There is limited and time restricted parking outside the house but we have permits.
  • Turn right at the bottom of our street for long walks out to the downs, cliffs and Reculver Towers or left for the town seafront, gardens, pier and amusements. We have first class restaurants here and an award winning micro pub serving real ales.
  • Grosvenor House is a real gem. Built around 1790, the rooms have tall ceilings and beautiful furnishings, tons of books, and vinyl to play on the turntable
  • Grosvenor House is a perfect base from which to explore Canterbury, Margate, the beaches at Broadstairs or any of the lovely towns and villages of Kent.
