The Old Farm House

Grimsby, Lincolnshire
Bed & Breakfast

A Lincolnshire Wolds retreat – perfect for walkers, cyclists & golfers. Views, antiques, old beams, log fire, great farmhouse breakfasts

3 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

You will feel at home in this rambling, quirky house – Nicola loves having guests to stay. The house is 300 years old and it’s said that Dick Turpin, on the run, once hid in the roof. Read the papers by a winter fire, flop into worn leather chairs, sip an evening glass of wine in the garden, sleep soundly on a fine brass bed. Rooms are named after the men of the extended family – King Henry, George and James – and all are colourful, comfortable and cushioned. There are cycle routes, walks and golf courses galore (Nicola has all the info), racing at Market Rasen, quaint churches to visit and an annual classic car rally.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Nicola Clarke

  • Excellent walking and cycling links nearby, so do bring your boots or bike! There are plenty of golf courses around here but the nearest golf course is 3 minutes drive.
  • Stunning Lincoln Cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Also recently opened is the Magna Carta Museum within the Castle grounds and nearby are lots of individual shops & eating places.
  • Recently an impressive war memorial has been built to honour the bomber command and is located just outside Lincoln.
  • The best pub is called The Ship and is less than 3 minutes drive and in the summer you can walk there on the bridal path which takes about 35 minutes. They serve fish caught by local fishermen.
  • Donna Nook is where you can the seals from late October through until Christmas. The Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby is a fascinating place to visit.
  • Hemswell Antiques Centre is one of the biggest in Europe with 3 old air force hangers full of antiques, furniture, china, glassware, jewellery etc
