The Experience

In a surprisingly quiet London street find a red-brick, rectangular building – part of an ex-council block built in the 70s (with no access by car so you’ll have to be happy to lug your suitcase a bit).  Inside (shoes off please) you’ll discover an entrance hall is filled with light, oatmeal carpets lead up to white walls, wooden floors and a healthy sprinkling of modern art, tapestry, ethnic fabrics, beautiful ceramic objects and city views. There’s a huge balcony/roof terrace running the length of the comfy living room with its glass doors, bringing the outdoors in: find a bench for dreaming, a little table and chairs, pretty pots of flowers and grasses. A simple, beautiful bedroom has pale oak floors, a low bed with a French white linen throw and a splosh of colour from a Tibetan runner hung on the wall; the loo and shower are separate and niftily-designed for extra space. There’s a good pub close but ardent cooks will not be disappointed with the black glossy cupboards in the kitchen and new pots and pans; basic ingredients are all here as this is where the owner lives when you are not there! No babbling TV.

John was very helpful before and during our stay. The flat was lovely - a perfect oasis of tranquility and calm in the middle of London and very reasonably priced. The coffee, wine, eggs, butter and milk provided by John was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. Lots of fascinating reading material in the flat too. John's place is very handy for hopping on the underground (round the corner) and there is also lots to do locally. We walked to Highgate Cemetery, Waterlow Park and Lauderdale House and had a lovely meal in the Gate House, Highgate Village. We would definitely stay here again.

My time at 225 Salisbury Walk was so very needed. I had just finished a walking trip up north, and to come home to a place that felt like "home" was a gift. It is a beautifully appointed space, with interesting textiles and art along with dried flowers and fresh jasmine scattered about. The weather was quite rainy during my time there, so I was unable to enjoy the balcony overflowing with plants as much as I would like. What I did enjoy immensely was it's proximity to Hampstead Heath and the distance away from the city center. Perfection.

We stayed at this lovely flat for three nights whilst attending a wedding in London. Very convenient for the Northern Line to zip into the West End but with the benefit of walking distance (uphill through Waterloo Park) to Highgate Village. Tranquility reigns inside the flat which has a lovely aesthetic with interesting artwork, textiles and ceramics. It's filled with natural sunlight with views of ecclesiastical architecture over delightful green foliage on the balcony. What a comfortable bed too!

Alison, Kirkcudbright

Such a lovely bijou pad, totally peaceful and private yet only 5 minutes from the tube. Thoughtfully-stocked kitchen (think egg-cups, garlic press, good coffee machine). Home-made cake to greet us, eggs (white, pale blue & brown) & wine in the fridge, home-made marmalade too. A vase of fragrant jasmine branches on the table, balcony pots in extravagant bloom. I would love to return!

My partner and I stayed at 225 Salisbury Walk in April over Easter. We loved staying there in someone's home with all its conveniences. It was so clean and fresh, milk and eggs and even wine in the fridge to welcome us. I loved the garden on the balcony - hardly knew you were not far from Holloway Road! It was very quiet, an oasis in a big city. We also felt very safe in the neighborhood and easily walked to buses and trains and great coffee shops (Bread and Bean!). We would definitely want to stay there again.

We booked with very short notice and the owners were very helpful. There even was cake on arrival! This is a clean, airy, light filled and quiet little flat, perfect for two people. The main living / dining room extends into a wonderfully planted balcony with many visiting birds and even a squirrel. The bedroom, WC and shower room are small but perfectly adequate and the bed is good. We highly recommend this flat to those who prefer self-catering to a hotel or B&B and will certainly book again.
