The Experience

If you’re searching for a little hideaway in north west London that’s peaceful, secluded and in a leafy garden, come to Belsize Park. The owner lives in a flat in the large, Victorian, terraced house and you have the lodge: cosy, comfortable and bliss for two. Laura, a singing teacher (lessons anyone?), leaves you chocolates, nuts, wine, fruit, flowers and brilliant advice on the city’s hidden treasures; she’s warm and friendly and knows London inside out. Glazed double doors open straight into the main room – the bedroom – off which lie the kitchen and shower. All is light, airy and a little bit Nordic, with a soft, serene palette of white, greys and greens. There are clear glass lamps on side tables, natural rugs on a wood floor, music, books, a small cabinet filled with DVDs, a super fitted wardrobe and a big mahogany sleigh bed. The galley kitchen sparkles, the shower room oozes luxury and outside are lanterns for the private courtyard terrace. Swim on Hampstead Heath, picnic on Primrose Hill (blankets provided!), walk to the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park. The tube is a three-minute stroll.

If you hate the noise and bustle of staying right bang in the centre of the city, then this is the spot for you. Not a siren, not a sound. Total peace and quiet in a pretty, private little lodge in a pretty garden. Lovely comfy bed, toasty warm, super shower room and a tiny kitchen with everything you need for a few days break. Hop skip and a jump from the tube and the Everyman cinema and restaurants up the road. Highly recommended - from a very very fussy Sawdays owner! ( am I allowed to advertise? Ada’s Retreat in the Lake District)

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Laura Long

  • Belsize Park is one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in London, home to many well known people in music and film (A list Hollywood actors). There are many restaurants and cafes within 3 minutes walk of Belsize Park Lodge - in all directions.
  • There are also great local amenities and places of interest: Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, an IMAX cinema, Hampstead Theatre, a smaller Everyman cinema , Camden Arts Centre, the Freud Museum and Keats House - all within very easy walking distance.
  • It's also very easy to get around the whole of London from here. It's about 20 minutes into the centre of London, and public transport links are many and easy. The closest tube is Belsize Park, just 3 minutes away.
  • London boasts everything you could wish for! In addition to the well known places of interest, there are also more secret off the beaten track places to explore, several books and guides in the chalet will tell you all about less known fantastic places
  • Belsize boasts close proximity to some of London's most beautiful green spaces: Hampstead Heath, where you can swim in the outdoor ponds, Primrose Hill, with amazing views over London, and Regents Park with beautiful gardens, outdoor theatre and lake.
  • Close by neighbourhoods are worth visiting, all vary in character: Camden Town famous for its markets, canal, live music venues and alternative shops. Hampstead for its quaint streets, up market shops and cafes. Pretty Primrose Hill: its eateries and shops
