The Experience

You’re separated from busy Brixton Hill by a large communal garden so it’s tranquil here, and Anne and Ian give you a whole floor of their house along with an elegant sitting room with a wood-burner.

Breakfast is in the garden room – excellent coffee, sourdough toast, homemade jams and fruit compotes. Head off to explore – you’ll find lots of maps and guide books in the house or ask your hosts who are locals. The tube is a ten-minute walk, or you can hop on a bus to get there in five.

In summer explore the back garden – enormous for London with secret paths, a greenhouse, herb garden, veg patch and fruit trees. Walk out to a huge choice of all kinds of food and some independent shops including Anne and Ian’s ‘Cornercopia’ which sells useful, beautiful and curious things for the home and garden; you get 10% off.

Location

The neighbourhood

Across the road from the house is the White Horse pub, with generous well-priced food and a lively atmosphere. Five minutes away is Brockwell Park with its outdoor lido and an excellent cafe. Vibrant Brixton Village (the ultimate hang-out spot at weekends) has many cafes, vintage shops, restaurants and markets – it’s also where Ian and Anne have their shop. For music lovers there are some great venues and the Ritzy Cinema is an institution – the largest independent cinema in the UK.

Local points of interest from Anne Fairbrother

  • Brixton is well connected, with Oxford Circus just 10 minutes away by tube and regular buses all over London. Very handy for Tate Britain, the restaurants of Borough Market, the river and South Bank Centre are just 30 mins by bus.
  • There are several good pubs close by and Brixton's best restaurant is within walking distance. The local park is a gem, with an art deco lido, award winning cafe and beautifu walled garden.
  • it's a 10 minute stroll to the Brixton's vibrant markets, serving everything from outstanding Modern British cuisine, to Chinese street food, craft beer, purple wigs and giant snails. As market insiders, let us be your guide to the best of Brixton.
  • It's a big house with plenty of different spaces to meet others or be private. You will have access to a guest lounge & TV room, a conservatory where we serve breakfast.
  • Our secret garden is little oasis of calm, we are urban growers with a passion for both beautiful and useful plants. Here you will find fig, apple and pear and plum trees, along side plenty of planting for wildlife. A little bit countryside in the city.

Introducing

Anne Fairbrother

Anne and Ian are a creative, interesting pair who have a flair for design and food – a winning combination. They’ve lived in Brixton for 25 years and know all about this ever-evolving vibrant pocket of London. Anne has a background in photography and design and Ian is an ex-art college student/chef who spent time travelling the world as a personal chef to bands on tour. He now cooks all kinds of exciting jams and compotes for guests and they host occasional supper clubs in the garden. They have both travelled extensively and the house is full of their finds from across the globe.
