The Experience

You walk straight into the wheelhouse: light, bright and with wonderful views; settle on comfy seats by a French wood-burner and feel well and truly ‘on board’. There’s lots of space so there’s no sense of having to duck your head or anything. Downstairs is a double bedroom with curved wooden panelling, portholes and windows. Find a coffee machine down here and a Houdini hatch in the ceiling – your escape route if the boat sinks!

Saul loves cooking and can offer breakfast on request, out on the deck if it’s sunny: good sausages, tomatoes with basil, salmon bagels, smoked kippers, home baked or local artisan bread. It’s a super space with table and chairs, outdoor sofa, pots of colourful plants, a barbecue and grand views of the river and all its birds – cormorants, Canada geese, heron, swans, ducks and coots.

You’re near to everything between Battersea and Wandsworth bridges so set off on foot, by bus, or ferry.

Reviews

We spent a wonderful extended Easter weekend aboard Flicka - everything is as described and more. One evening, Saul cooked a wonderful 3 course meal for us and two of our children, who were staying nearby, and we enjoyed several outstanding cooked breakfasts as well. Sitting outside on deck watching the comings and goings on the river is a special, and extremely relaxing, experience. Saul looked after us very well indeed throughout (Sarah was away). We will definitely return.

We had a great stay on Flicka, the boat is lovely, with beautiful views and well placed for everything we wanted to do. The ensuite cabin, wheelhouse and deck are such nice spaces to be in, a comfortable and welcoming oasis of peace after a busy day of sightseeing. We had a superb evening meal on board, cooked by Saul, who took great care to make sure that everything was perfect for us. From the many places we've stayed-here and abroad- Saul and Sarah are our favourite hosts-friendly, welcoming and entertaining. This is a truly unique experience and we highly recommend it.

Nicky, North Berwick

We had a wonderful stay aboard Flicka last weekend. Saul and Sarah were so welcoming from the moment we stepped on. Our bedroom was lovely, with a really comfortable bed. I was amazed to have a full sized bathroom too. We loved sitting around the Captain's Table, having pre dinner drinks next to the wood burning stove. Saul's breakfasts set us up for the day and we had a wonderful evening meal on board on the Saturday evening. We will definitely return!

Staying at Flicka as Londoners made us fall in love with the city again. It was so nice to sleep by the water in the cosy cabin (surprisingly peaceful with earplugs!), watch the world go from the deck, and go to work the next day on the Uber boat right on the doorstep. Magical! Very tasty breakfasts and a nice dinner on board are available and the whole experience is very chilled - like staying with an aunt and uncle, you’re the only guests!

Karoline, London

A lovely boat and a really different place to stay. Highlights: the dog! And using the Thames clipper throughout our three days to visit everything we wanted to see without stopping foot on the tube.

Andrew, Birmingham

What a little treat, From the moment we stepped on board we were made to feel welcome and at home, warm and inviting we spent most of our stay on the main deck area watching the sights of the river go by. Such a treat to see and stay in London on the Thames. The Captains Cabin was very comfortable complete with en-suite and we had the rear of the boat to ourselves, we were able to come and go as we pleased from the Wharf and the barge for evening walks along the river and to fetch the odd bottle of wine!. Will certainly we going back very soon...

Paul, Bedford

Come for wide skies over sparkling (when the sun shines) water, fabulous birdwatching, mudlarking if you fancy, grand big breakfasts cooked by Saul, boat spotting and walking or cycling to everything. No need for a car.

Location

The neighbourhood

An excellent spot with big skies, and views to Chelsea across the lovely wide river. You can go mudlarking and discover all sorts of stuff - the Thames has the third highest tidal range in Britain so it rises and falls seven meters twice a day. Bring bikes and head down the tow path all the way to Westminster. Find a great French restaurant locally, good pubs and Battersea Arts Centre nearby.

Introducing

Saul & Sarah Akerman

Saul and Sarah have lived all over the world, including Hong Kong and Baghdad. They love their patch of London and enjoy sharing the barge (they're at the other end) with guests. They are fuss-free hosts who feed you very well, are there when you want them but otherwise will leave you to yourselves. They have a gorgeous French Briard dog called Oola.
