This huge 1930s, Grade II-listed building is one of London’s most iconic venues. A pub, club, restaurant, live music and entertainment venue, now refurbished with pizazz, which has launched the careers of Ed Sheeran and KT Tunstall to name just two. Fifteen boutique bedrooms have all been individually designed: think roll top baths, opulent wallpaper and cool art. This place is full of surprises.
Hotel manager, Robyn, is fun and energetic – she will check you in and give you a tour. You’ll find a Nespresso coffee machine, fresh milk and juice in your room. In the week, breakfast is simply fruit and porridge – but there are plenty of good cafes nearby. At weekends tuck into the brunch menu which covers everything from granola and smashed avocado to a full English.
Spanning five floors are convivial bars serving craft ales, artisan spirits and fine wines, events in a performance area dripping with chandeliers and a smart dining room serving pub classics, imaginative small plates and pizzas. Hop on the tube to get into central London in 15 minutes.
