The colourful sign may say Brook Green Hotel but at its heart this is a friendly London pub, in a leafy spot close to Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush. Craft beers, cask ales and more cocktails than you can shake a swizzle stick at in the buzzy basement bar. For a quieter time of it, stick to the velvet banquettes in the main dining area, or pick a spot in the cosy courtyard. The exterior is a striking red brick affair on the curving corner of a busy London street, while interiors are funky and modern: exposed brickwork, imaginative lighting choices and an ornate mirrored bar. Tuck into the likes of Mayfield macaroni cheese with roast sweet potato, chilli and sage crumb, or bring the family for one of the splendid Sunday Roasts. Upstairs, seventeen spoiling bedrooms (some interconnect for families, all can accommodate extra beds or cots for little ones) with hi-tech touches, tiled bathrooms, super-comfy beds and stylish colour schemes. Ask for a quiet room if you’re not here for the hustle and bustle that comes with a popular and thriving London pub.
