Wander the woodlands and riverside, bask in nature and peace, return to luxurious, elegant spaces. Get married too!

This is heavenly countryside, and Brinkburn Priory (built in 1135) has an unrivalled position within it. Solitude and peace are yours in a dramatic wooded ravine along the meandering river Coquet – no wonder the monks who built it felt serene. Mark and Emma Fenwick have renovated (beautifully) three lovely old buildings: The Stables, perfect for a big family or friends' gathering with plenty of outdoor space, Priory Cottage – a cosy bolthole for two, and Bel House with its private south-facing garden. All have superb kitchens and bathrooms, comfortable sofas and chairs by wood-burning stoves, good fabrics and gentle colours. Nothing is other than generous and all has been thought of, even down to bathrobes and good lotions and potions. It's so romantic you may even be inspired to get married here, in summer on the terrace with a marquee or in the elegant White Room in winter. There are more than 30 acres for you to explore, with woodland walks along the river and lots of wildlife; beaches are peerless and yet you are close to good road and rail links, and the airport. Newbies to Northumberland will fall in love.

  • For the woodland experience enjoy 35 acres of beautiful riverside paths through the beech trees, bluebells and wild garlic .If you're a wild swimmer you can jump into the river for a refreshing dip, or sling a hook and try and catch a fish.
  • To unwind go quietly in the woods and you will notice the kingfishers, the deer, and the red squirrels. In the evening the bats fly and the badger is around. If you are really lucky you can sit and watch the otter splooshing in the river.
  • You are 30 mins from the coast, 30 mins from the Cheviot hills, 30 mins from Hadrian's wall, 30 mins from Hogwarts and Alnwick Castle, you have views into the National Park and the Simonside Hills, and Brinkburn Priory on your doorstep.
  • One of the best place to eat in Northumberland is around the Stables dining table with your closest friends and family. We are happy to buy in or advise you on the best local ingredient; meat, cheese, fish, and bread is produced throughout the area.
  • New Accommodation Bel House available now. Sleeps four.
  • If you are thinking of getting married use your stay as a recce, and come back again for the real deal. We can accommodate up to 70 guests in our ceremony room and 120 for a wedding breakfast. in our tipis.
