Bucklaw Cottage

Alnwick, Northumberland

Smart, modern, beautifully designed. Off the beaten track, with easy access to ancient Alnwick and wild Northumbrian beaches

Sleeps 2

Up a country lane off the road, with open fields on either side, is a beautifully designed group of renovated properties, converted from the original farmsteading. Your one-storey holiday home is one of seven dwellings round a three-sided courtyard. Walk in to a bright, blue-and-white seaside themed living space, cosy with heated floors, two white sofas, books, DVDs and board games. The kitchen has everything the modern cook might need and you eat at a pine-topped table, or in the courtyard on sunny days. Owner Michele leaves you a generous ‘deli’ welcome pack with wine and nibbles, as well as basics. She can also arrange to leave you a ready-made meal in the fridge or even a larger shop. Sleep peacefully in the simple bedroom; feel warm in the sparkling bathroom with power shower and fluffy towels. Ancient Alnwick with its shops, restaurants, magnificent castle and famous gardens is near, and you are a short drive from stunning white sandy beaches with proper dunes. Visit the little fishing village of Craster for the best kippers ever, then walk along the dramatic coast to Dunstanburgh castle. Lovely.
