Former pupils would be amazed… old photographs recall its school days but now this is a calm, comfortable cottage where estate staff and family make you very welcome and there will be something delicious and homemade and a bottle of wine waiting for you.
The double bedrooms have window seats to enjoy the views over fields of cattle and the lake and countryside beyond; children have a little bunk room. The neat galley kitchen has all you need, and the sunny dining room is a friendly space to eat and chat; there’s a log-burner in here and another in the cosy sitting room, along with books and games for rainy days. There’s an enclosed and secluded rear garden with table and chairs for al fresco dining – cook on the gas barbecue on summery evenings.
Good local bumph is left for you: cyclists and walkers love the wild beauty of the Northumbrian countryside and you are within 45 minutes’ drive of the white sandy coast and ancient craggy castles. Stately homes like Belsay, Cragside and Wallington Hall are closer.
