The Experience

Gather up the whole clan and head to Northumberland for a big house party with children and dog – there’s much to occupy them in the beamed barn with a trampoline and table tennis, and a family room indoors with books, games and DVDs. And a huge garden to safely charge about in.

Housekeeper Joyce will leave you a basket of logs and a bucket of coal, as well something home-baked and fresh-cut flowers; she’ll happily give you tips on what to do and where to go during your stay.

The kitchen is big enough for all to be seated without jostling (catering can be arranged), or you can choose the more formal dining room – pretty for candle-lit dinners. You’re a short walk to a friendly village pub and a quick drive from vast stretches of perfect white sand with proper dunes.

Reviews

Thank you very much for a really lovely stay. We had a great time and the weather was fab. We thought the scones and quiche was a lovely touch and really enjoyed them and also appreciated you getting the hot water fixed so quickly. You have a really lovely property, very relaxing. Rennington is a gorgeous village and all the people so friendly especially Mark and Peg at the pub. We are originally from the NE and had forgotten how friendly everyone is up here.

Alison, Cheltenham

We had a wonderful stay at Rennington House, perfect for the 10 of us - 3 generations. The house is spacious and accommodated us all brilliantly for the week. It was really well equipped, clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The grounds and barn were wonderful; we enjoyed a BBQ, lots of games outside, table tennis, pool and darts. A brilliant location with a super pub a couple of minutes away and perfectly located to visit all Northumberland has to offer. The home baking on arrival was very welcome. We had such a happy week and would really recommend it for large family get togethers.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re just outside the pretty rural village of Rennington, four miles north of Alnwick. The local pub, The Horseshoes Inn, is just a mile away; hop into the car to visit Alnwick Castle or Alnwick Garden’s treehouse restaurant, both around five minutes away. You’re a short drive from the Northumberland Coast AONB; from Seahouses take a boat trip to the Farne Isles to see puffins and seals.

Local points of interest from Sarah & Stuart Lang

  • Rennington House was owned by the Duke of Northumberland for his tenant farmers and is surrounded by his famous wild grey partridge shoot and Percy Hunt country.
  • The party barn has a table tennis table, trampoline, swingball, short tennis, snooker and dart board and lovely twinkly fairy lights for fun nights. Perfect for keeping the children busy on rainy days.
  • The vegetable patch and orchard will have seasonal goodies for guests to try courtesy of John Holmes our lovely gardner.
  • The harbours of Craster, Beadnell and Amble are nearby and boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from Seashouses, also famous for it's fish and chips
  • Alnwick, Bamburgh, Chillingham, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh.....all nearby castles which saw many Border Reiver battles and are rich with the regions history and some more recent Harry Potter and Downton Abbey action.
  • Local chefs can prepare meals and celebration dinners on request.

Introducing

Sarah & Stuart Lang

Sarah and Stuart Lang lived in Rennington House when their children were toddlers and have very special memories of their time there; they enjoyed keeping chickens, pet lambs and a pony in the stables, and hosted fun parties in the barn along with barbecues in the courtyard. Now their kids are older they live in Edinburgh and will leave you in the capable hands of their housekeeper Joyce. The keys are usually left in a keysafe so you can let yourself in.
