The Experience

The whole hamlet has a fascinating history – there’s been a settlement of sorts here since the 1100s – and the atmosphere is very special. It’s off-grid but there’s not a scrap of hair shirt about it. The kitchen has a warming Aga, a wood-burner belts out the heat with unlimited logs and the welcome hamper from Tully’s of Rothbury is bulging with nice things including chocolate and fizz.

Walk all day from the cottage without coming across another soul. Cyclists will head to Kidland forest for an off road circular route with a long section by the river, artists and writers will steep themselves in the peaceful, creative vibe, wildlife lovers will like watching the bird feeders in the garden and feeding Bertie and Cyril, the resident red squirrels.

Evenings in summer will be spent by the barbecue in the garden and clear skies at any time of year will reveal a starry blanket when it’s dark. Sleep peacefully in well-dressed beds.

So much more than we expected, Comfortable, well equipped, a great sense of remoteness. Great hosts in Terri and Matt. Super dog friendly. Wonderful welcome pack. Even Storm Babett didn't dampen our spirits. Plenty of amazing walking so no need to use the car but if you do its not far to the other attractions the county has to offer. Sunrise and sunset spectacular, as was the couple of nights of dark sky, so many stars and so clear. Wonderful for our lively sprocker, so many new smells, worn out each day.

A beautiful cottage, even better than the photographs; warm and cosy with fantastic views and with every comfort making guests feel super-welcome and ready for a special stay. Total peace and quiet, walks from the door, garden space surrounded with stunning scenery and within reach of Northumberland’s attractions.

Just home from staying at Tutors Lodge, Kidlandlee, and what a lovely week we had, despite the gloomy weather forecast, the weather was generally excellent, even the rain on Thursday didn’t spoil our walk with Alfie, our Cocker Spaniel, who tried his hardest to break free and chase the pheasants and two Roe Deer we saw! The cottage itself, is very well appointed, with everything you should need during your stay, and the welcome pack is second to none. This is our third stay at Kidlandlee, using different cottages, and they are all excellent.Thank you to Terri and Mathew! Peter, Isabel & Alfie.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Coquet river tinkles along the bottom of the valley and eventually pours in to the North Sea at Amble. Trails and paths meander up through magnificent hills and there's a good walking route in nearby Kidland forest. It's four miles to the nearest village and 14 to the town of Rothbury. Harbottle has the Star Inn which doubles up as a small shop and does woodfired pizzas in the courtyard.

Visit Craigside House! A wonderful day out for the whole family and doggies too. Building camps in the woods, nature trails, kayaking and canoeing on the lake. Beautiful gardens and house full of local history and inventions. Our favourite place to go!
For Harry Potter fans! Alnwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn about the history of Alnwick and enjoy the beautiful award-winning gardens created by The Duchess of Northumberland. Activities, concerts and magical fun!
Barter Books is one of the biggest second-hand book stores in the country. Great for rainy days. Preserved beautifully it is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. Sit, read and relax with a cuppa in restored waiting rooms with open fires. Dogs welcome.
Holy Island and the Farne Islands are a great day out. Spot seals and puffins as you travel by boat. Visit the home of Grace Darling, Longstone Light House and find out how her amazing courage inspired the first life boats to patrol our shores.
Alnmouth Beach is the start of amazing castle walks and the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite.. The Village has amazing coffee shops and dog friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local art work and cultural events.
The Star Inn in Harbottle is loved by guests for its warm welcome and is at the heart of the community. You can dine in or pick up a take away on your way back to the cottage. It's dog friendly too so you can take them with you.

Introducing

Terri & Matthew Stock

Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
